Winter Wedding

I'm planning a wedding for February 2013.  My dilema is, I don't want dull winter wedding colors.  I want bright- it may be dreary out there but it's bright and beautiful in here- colors.  Any suggestions on how to do this so it won't look tacky?

Re: Winter Wedding

  • You can use whatever colors you want anytime of the year. Try out this website http://www.theperfectpalette.com/. It's awesome for color combinations of all sorts.
  • Jewel tones are fabulous for winter weddings, especially if you use neutral/metallic accents.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • I think jewel tones would be very pretty in February.
  • I'll look up jewel tones and the palette- thanks!
  • I actually dislike hyper seasonal color schemes - no offence to anyone who's planning a brown and orange fall wedding, but it's just not my taste. I'm doing Navy and Fuschia for my September wedding - just do what makes you happy, and you can totally make it work.

Keep in mind that you don't have to have "colors."  You can decorate using as many or as few colors as you want.  If you're wanting to keep everything tied together, maybe focus on a particular motif or flower instead of limiting yourself to a couple of colors.

What colors do you like?  What colors does your FI like?  It doesn't have to be complicated, and like PPs said you can do any color any time of year and you can even do a rainbow of colors if you want.

Purple's my favorite color, so I knew I wanted purple, but I didn't want it to be overwhelming b/c it could be too feminine.  Looking at DB I saw the cornflower blue and thought that would look goregous with dark purple and boom, my colors were picked.  Dresses were blue, flowers, shoes, and guys' ties were dark purple (so little punches).

Don't overthink it, you'll drive yourself nuts ;-)
  • I had a winter wedding.  My ceremoney colors were red and gold.  My reception colors were white and ice blue.  Here is a pic...
