MAJOR Bridesmaid problem!!!!

Soo, I told my bridesmaids over a month ago I wanted them to go in by the 19th and get fitted and order thier dresses. Only one of my bridesmaids and my jr. BM did it and I just went up there and found out that starting this week they are discontinuing the dress!!!!!  So now my two girls have to take thier dresses back and my other girls have to order thier dresses ASAP. I'm soo mad because this whole problem could of been avoided if they would have just ordered it when I asked them to. Now I have to tell them all that Im going this Sunday to pick a new one and they can come if they are free but they need to order them then or sometime this week cause there is just no time left. I dont want to seem like a b***** or bridezilla but I need this done. Any advice?

Re: MAJOR Bridesmaid problem!!!!

  • Relax. Don't get too put out with them. Yes it sucks, but try to realize that everything will come together and hurting friendships along with way probably isn't what you want. Pick out a dress that is within their budget and let them know the very last day that it can be ordered. If they don't order it by then, they've taken themselves out of the wedding.

You also don't have to buy from a place like David's Bridal if you don't want to. You could go to a ton of places and have your girls buy off the rack and probably spend a lot less money. That way you know that you'd have your dresses in time.

  • Have you spoke with the shop as far as if there are dresses still available.

I mean the 19th was 4 days ago, to me it wouldn't seem like a big deal but unfortunately it looks like you got unlucky with this part.

I would talk with the shop...just because they are discontinuing the dress doesn't mean there are none out there.  Get the girls measured, see if there are any in their size, if there is not then move to the next dress.

The other 2 girls don't have to get another dress.  You can probably find a dress very similar to this discontinued one and just have 2 girls in a dress that is 'slightly' different.

I mean I know this sounds frustrating and yes the situation could have been avoided but unfortunately its another one of those slap-in-the-face moments where you realize you have no control over certian things or people.

And FWIW:  Yes I have seen something similar.  The bride was able to find dresses in the sizes of the girls.

  • I'm not good at stalking member profiles. When's your wedding? We often see salons and brides ordering bridesmaids' dresses way early. I get that your instructions weren't "way early," as the dress was discontinued, but it could still be way early if it's just plain too far before the wedding. Bridesmaids might be worried about saving the money, or changing size/shape, or just don't want to be bothered so far out.

Assuming your wedding is in 6 months or less, I might get some flack for this, but I think a sweetly passive-aggressive e-mail accomplishes what needs to happen.

"Bridesmaid and Jr. Bridesmaid purchased their dresses. In this process, I learned that the dresses I asked everyone to order have been discontinued. Since I know only Bridesmaid and Jr. Bridesmaid placed their orders on time, they'll have to return their dresses so I can choose something that is still available this late in the game. I'm going to do that Sunday. You're welcome to come, but of course you're not obliged. I'll e-mail everyone with the ordering details late Sunday. Because the wedding is soon, and Bridesmaid, Jr. bridesmaid, and I have already had such headaches over the dresses because of late or missing orders and discontinuations, please order the dress I'll tell you about Sunday by X date."

Or you can have non-matching dresses. Or you can remove everyone who didn't order on time.
  • I have to use them because DB doesnt do refunds, they just do in store credits and Im not punishing my two girls by making them by a whole nother dress because my other 4 were lazy and didnt order thier dress by my deadline.

Ok first of all, they are not lazy.  Just because they didn't order them by your deadline doesn't mean they are lazy.  One of my girls ordered hers 2 weeks later than the "deadline" and she still got it in 2 months before the wedding.  It wasn't because she was lazy it was because she has a life and taking time out to go and get fitted at a shop that is out of her way was time consuming.  So please don't insult your friends.  I know you are frustrated and kind of panicking but it will work out.

Do you have a picture style number of this discontinued dress?

DB is really good about having dresses very similar so I stand by advice of getting a dress slightly different as well as my advice of trying to find out if the store (or other stores) carry the size and style number.

  • The lady checked with the warehouse and there arent any left, all there is is whats left in the store.
  • See if they have their sizes in the store or a store close by you.

  • Have you checked online? What style is it? One of my BM dresses from DB was discontinued in the store, but they are still carried online, just in limited sizes.
  • This really isn't that big a deal.  The two girls are returning their dresses, and your wedding isn't until the end of May so you have 3 months.  The easiest thing to do would be to pick a color and length, maybe fabric, from DB and tell them all to pick dresses that they like and that are in their budgets that fit those requirements.  Then they can go when it's convenient for them, or they can shop eBay and other online retailers if they want.

  • I also would check ebay. There are tons of DB bridesmaids dresses on there, and your bridesmaids would save money as well.

  • I found the dresses I LOVED for my bridesmaids a year ago.... at that time they were discountinuing it at Davids Bridal.... We just ordered them this January from online, so just bc the stores are discoutinuing them it doesn't mean the website it... There were 2 sizes out of stock online, but we ended up finding them in other states, it took some work and $10 extra for shipping, but my dresses are amazing & I love them. Good luck

  • The DB in store system and website are actually 2 different systems, the website is considered their "outlet," so if it's a common color they may still have them available. They want you to order in store so they get commission. However, if it's a color not usually in stock, like fern, you might be out of luck. If so, just go back and get new dresses. Or change the color to something like black
