Wedding Party

Attire Ideas....

I am so confused.....My wedding colors are cream, blsck and sage.  I am a little weary that everything won't come together as I would like it too.  Also, my wedding flowers are calli lilies.  How can I tie it all in together?  Any suggestions?  Thanks!

  • What are you thinking won't come together?  It's 3 colors, it's easy.
  • My wedding colors are black and green.

BMs are wearing black cocktail dresses with green sashes. Groomsmen are wearing black tuxes with black vests and black and green striped ties. We picked black napkins (and I think black table linens?) to go on top of the white (or ivory? I forget) floor-length tablecloths. Invites were olive-colored with brown trees on them. I bought green and black place cards and will mount guests' names on them using white cardstock. I picked out green shoes for myself because I thought they'd be fun.

I ordered a mostly white bouquet with some green accents, and FI wanted a white rose boutonniere with green berries. Bridal party will have pink gerbera daisies, and the parents will have white orchids. Florist suggested hydrangea and gerberas for the centerpieces (I am not sure what colors but I don't care very much). I got green tealight holders to use for CPs as well.

Why don't you think it'll all come together? They're just colors, not a huge deal.

  • I have picked black strapless dress with a sage ribbon, but I am confused at the color of flowers I want them to carry.  My wedding dress is off white/cream and will carry calli lilies.  My "men" will wear black and cream with sage ties and most likely calili lilies as lapel pins.  I am afraid that everyhting won't come together becuase I am all over the place..LOL.  I go from cream and sage accents for the tables to black and sage.  I don't want it to be too "dark".  My gift boxes are medium black boxes with sage ribbon and the menu/keepsakes are cream and black w/sage ribbon.

Why don't the BMs carry white / cream boquets with some greenery peeking through so you see the green accents as well.  BM boquets are typically smaller than your bridal boquet so even if they're the same color (if not the same flowers) they'll still look a little different.

Don't overthink it and don't stress over this - I guarentee nobody analyzes colors more than the bride.  :-)

Cream & sage accents on the table would be lovely, I'm sure, and a little different than the black & sage gift boxes. If you place the gift boxes on the tables, they'd stand out more against a lighter tablescape color theme. HTH.

  • The colors are fine.  It's a lovely combination and will look great.  And just because it's a pet peeve of mine, you're not "weary" that the colors won't come together-you're "wary" that they won't.

Use the colors.  It will be beautiful.

  • I'm not getting what won't work. Cream calla lilies sound like they'd be great with the black dresses, or you could do light pink or maybe even purple callas for the BMs.

I personally like callas by themselves, with no other accent flowers, but that's a personal preference because I think they look very clean and elegant on their own. The suggestion of some little green buds stuck in the middle of cream callas is a good one. Ask your florist for some suggestions - mine was very helpful when I had no clue about what I wanted for centerpieces. Ribbons around the bouquet handles can also help add color.

If your wedding is in 2011, like your bio says, you have a long way to go before you need to choose table linens and flowers. Don't stress about this now. I'm doing black and green next month (and we only finalized the table linens a couple of weeks ago), so if you are active on the New Jersey board I will hopefully be sharing photos after my wedding ... page or e-mail me if I forget and I will gladly share photos if you want to see how black and green wind up looking. I also have some black and green inspiration pics in my bio if you would like to look in the meantime.

  • It will be fine. The girls can wear black and carry bouquets of green hydrangeas with white peaking through or something.

  • Thank you all for your advice.  I am definitely taking notes and have more ideas as far a floral arrangements are concerned.  I am more of a visual person, so I have to see everything laid out.  Just a ittle nervous.....Thanks again!!!!
