Wedding Party

What did you get?

What was your favorite thing you got for Xmas?

For me, I got the 6 remaining platinum flutes that were on our registry from my parents.

Re: What did you get?

  • what's this have to do with a wedding party?

    "registry & gifts" section, perhaps?
  • Brimcleod, if you didn't already know, I do the daily Wedding party board poll of the day. I haven't been doing it this week because I am currently in Mexico on vacation. I normally do it Monday through Friday and we ask wedding related and non wedding questions to open up to each other and become more friendly. You really learn a lot about someone by how they answer "what's your user name mean?"

  • well isn't there another section for that?
i don't think it fits in wedding party at all...and i feel like people looking through forums for wedding party stuff would get aggrivated.

Most of the regs play along. I'm not removing this and I'm not stopping the polls. You can always ignore the posts. Also, if you check out the Etiquette board, most of those posts have NOTHING to do with etiquette. You need to lurk the boards to get a feel for what tone is going on and who the regs are.

  • My mom got me a KitchenAid standing mixer, and also paid the balance on our florist bill. I really appreciated both of those things very much (in addition to a lot of other nice stuff).

  • Holy Crizap! A mixer?! Did you get a specific color? How exciting....when do you plan to use it first? When I got mine, I set it up and made lemon merengue pie the very next day! Happy baking!

  • I didn't open it yet due to the chaos of the day, but the picture on the box is of a white mixer. I had a black one on our registry, but the color is small potatoes :P

Not sure when I want to use it just yet! I hate our current apartment and its kitchen, so I'm debating if I want to save it and crack it open once we buy a house (or at least move into a nicer place) with some space to keep it on display. I feel like I want nice surroundings before I christen this bad boy with something yummy.

  • I'm reserving judgment 'til FI and me exchange gifts. Since I had to work both X-mas Eve and X-mas, FI decided to go with his fam to the grandparents' house, so we haven't had a chance to exchange yet  :(

  • Well my best gift would have to be getting engaged this month and getting my ring! Laughing But as for things I actually got on Christmas Day, my favorites are my Calvin Klein wool pea coat that was one of my gifts from my FI and some Royal Doulton china I got from my mom--two pieces of bakeware, pie plate, bless this home plate, teapot warmer.  (I already have nice china, so won't be registering for that other than maybe a gravy boat and some bowls!)

  • Brimcleod, Stina is a cherished reg on this board and her polls are loved by me as MOD among others.  You can choose to participate if you'd like and you might even enjoy yourself!

Stina, Christmas was fantastic!  Some of the highlights:
-DH gave me a bottle of my perfume (Burberry Brit) and a beautiful new Coach wallet.

-BIL and SIL's present was from their Italian honeymoon so we now have a great new bottle of wine, Limoncello, olive oil, and pesto.  I don't know if I can wait the 3-5 years to age the wine!

-MIL and FIL are sending us to an Italian cooking class at a local winery.

-My Mommy and Daddy bought us a Kindle!!

-My aunt gave us a painting of our town as seen from the water 20 years ago (DH and I live on the coast).

    How's your tan coming Stina??
  • My favorite was the rest of our everyday dishes from our registry.  DH bought me a pendant, which I'm also in love with.  I can't wait to wear it to work on Monday.

Now I'm convinced this girl is a troll.

    How's the drama?
  • Ooh, banana a kindle! Wow. My mom swears by her kindle. My baby sister told us that 30% of book sales on amazon now are for the kindle. Wowzas! Happy reading....

It's overcast here today and we're leaving. I have more bug bites than a tan!

  • I knew DH loved the gift when he kept going to show it to people.  We're almost 30 and he was like an excited 4 year old!  It was VERY cute!

I hope your vacation was still lovely even if you didn't get a tan!
  • I know what you mean by your H being a 4 year old. My baby sister bought our dad a remote control helicopter toy and he has been playing with it since he opened it. Sometimes boys gotta be boys.

  • That's so awesome!  My mom got DH and my sister's bf remote helicopters.  They chased around the cats all day.
  • FI got me a NAP robe from Brookstones ... omg, it's so soft, I keep thinking I'm just going to sleep naked in this thing for the rest of my life, lol.

My parents got us a Ninja blender (I'm apparently the only person who hasn't seen the infomercials for these yet, but we needed a blender anyway, so yay!), and a fire-proof safe (Which I've been wanting one forever). And, while I get to share it with FI, they gave me a vintage Jelly Belly dispenser (If you ever see me post about favors, you should know I love Jelly Bellys) ... it looks like a golden gumball machine, I'm ecstatic.

Highlight of my day though, was a gift that I gave. I bought FI Assassin's Creed II for the Xbox (He's wanted this game since before it was even made, lol), and I managed to get it into the Xbox on Christmas Eve. After he opened the sweatshirt I gave him, I asked him to pretty-please make some coffee. While he was doing that, I turned on the TV and quickly muted it. I set it to the Xbox channel, so the main game screen was on and then said "FI, something's wrong with the volume, could you help me?". So he walked into the living room and looked at the screen ... his face was priceless.

  • Meg, that's brilliant.

My mom bought us a cobalt blue KitchenAid mixer for Christmas, but I got to open it early to make cookies.  I'm so ecstatic, I've been wanting one forever, and we really, really, REALLY wanted that particular color.

For Christmas Day, my mom also got us a really nice blown glass ornament in the shape of a wedding cake, and FFIL and FSMIL got us a very nice cast iron griddle.  It's yellow, but we got the receipt so we can attempt to exchange it for blue.

But my best Christmas present, aside from getting to spend a full day with FI (our days off are weird, so it was our first in months), was FI agreeing that we'll start looking for a house after the wedding.  I desperately want a place with a real kitchen and space for me to paint, so I'm really excited.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Aerin, you have no idea how proud I was that I was able to pull it off. FI manages to surprise me all the time, but precious and few are the times I plan a surprise and he doesn't figure it out.

  • Oh, I believe it.  FI still gloats that he was able to surprise me with the proposal, because I am notoriously difficult to surprise, and we've been engaged for a year and a half.  You're definitely entitled to savor the accomplishment.

Also, holy crap, your wedding is less than a week away!  That's crazy!

  • Hahaha, I know, we're getting close. I keep going back and forth between squee-ing and crapping myself over the excitement, lol.

  • How much last minute stuff do you have to do?  My sister left a ton of stuff until the day before the wedding, and it was awful.  Not recommended.

  • Most of it's pretty taken care of. I got very lucky with how inclusive our venue is, so there were actually a lot of things I didn't even need to do (Center pieces, linens, the cake, etc).

We still need finalize the ceremony, we have the bulk of it, but our officiant wanted a "word-for-word" thing typed up  (Of course, the most important thing is the thing we slack on) and make the final payment at the venue ... I think everything else is done other than the little stuff (Like getting my nails done and picking up the tuxes).

Holy crap, it's getting pretty "real", lol.

  • Oh, and an even better present than the iPod was my sister! I havent seen her in YEARS and she flew in from Cali on Monday. She and Bro-in-law travelled with FI and I to Louisiana to see the rest of our family (so Ive been AFK for 3 days) and we just got back today. SHe is not leaving until Monday night. I feel so blessed. We haven't been in the same place for 7 days since 1995, so her presence is a real treat!

  • I got a new digital camera...I really badly needed one so I was sooooo excited! My mom and dad got it for me!
  • Wow, everyone got really great gifts. Meg, your wedding is this freakin' week!

And I will now have to tell my dad to chase the cats with his new toy.

  • My favorite gift was my Tag Watch.  It's a prefect watch for boating (needed for my job).

Others that were up there was  2 nights in Puerto Rico (actually that was a gift to DH from work.  But hey who else would he be taking right?), some DS games and the Cuisinart Griddler from my parents.  DH has been making me pancakes every morning since we got  it.  Yay, breakfast in bed.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • FI and me exchanged gifts yesterday finally!

He played to the Harry Potter fanatic in me, heehee. He got me the collector's edition of the Tales of Beedle the Bard and then a little box set with "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" and "Quidditch Through the Ages." They are pretty fantastic. The beast book has notes written in the margins by Harry, Ron, and Hermione and they just add so much. Laughing

I told him that now I need Hermione's wand so I can pretend that I'm as awesome as her and run around casting spells on people. Wink

Ha. I'm such a loser, but at least I know it!
