Wedding Party

Another wedding scheduled on my weddding Date.

My priest which is performing the ceremony calls to ask if it's OK if he marries another couple, a couple of hours before my ceremony? At first I didn't see a problem with it, but when I called him back to find out the time, I don't see enough time to decorate the church for my wedding. He is marrying another couple at 10.00 am and said he had a baptism right after that. That it was something quick that they would all be out by 10:30 am.Our ceremony is at 1:00 pm But on the day of the wedding we are going to be really busy getting ready and there won't be anytime to set up the church, well I told him this and he suggested I decorate the night before. Which means that the other Bride will be using my decorations before I do.If I had used them first, than fine I would have left them there. But I am not comfortable with this.so my priest got upset with me and said does it matter a flower on a pew and someone else is using it? so I felt bad and told him not to get upset with me because I didn't want him to feel bad.and we left it at that.

Should I just send someone to decorate after their ceremony or find another church to marry us?We had this date saved since September.

Re: Another wedding scheduled on my weddding Date.

  • I don't think it's that big of a deal.  Our church does weddings every Saturday at 12, 2 and 7:30.  We could only get in 30 minutes before our 2:00 ceremony, it wasn't a big deal.

I just put some flowers on the altar and brought in the unity candle holder, and the coordinator put it there fr us.  Had we decided to do pew bows or something more involved, I would have called the 12:00 bride and tried to come up with some decor we could agree on and buy together.
  • I agree, it's no big deal.  It will be okay if the decorations are up for the earlier wedding as long as the other couple isn't objected to it.  You're overreacting a bit, so you might want to give yourself a couple days to think about it before making a final decision.
  • Since I think that church decorations are really a one use budget buster, this wouldn't bother me at all.

Expending time, effort, and money on something that just won't make a whole lot of difference seems pointless to me.  Once your wedding starts, all the focus will be on the front of the church where people will see BMs in lovely dresses, GM in suits/tuxes, a beaming groom and a radiant bride.

They won't care, nor will they notice pew bows.  That's sort of a long way of saying either skip the church decorations, or as MNIN said, coordinate with the bride before you.

I don't think it would be a deal breaker for me.
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • OK thanks, I just needed reassurance. Now I feel better.
  • What kind of decorations are you using that you're worried about her using them first?  If the decor might be damaged I can see how it would bother you, but otherwise I think it's a bit of an overreaction.  Sometimes I overreact when I get bad news, but after sitting with it for a while it doesn't bother me as much.  Give yourself a couple of days and see how you feel, then take it from there.

I am using Tulle around the seating area with bows and flowers at the altar.
You guys are right I need to relax, I am just so nervous, it's coming so soon.May 15th and it seems like I have so much to do.
  • Hanging some tulle, bows and flowers on the pews won't take more than an hour unless you're decorating an entire Cathedral.  It would make me nervous too, but think about it objectively, it's fine.  The priest probably marries couples every weekend or so, he knows whether it's a close call or not.  You know what I mean?  If he knew it wasn't enough time to clear out one wedding and start another, he wouldn't consent to it.

  • Does your church have a coordinator or decoration committee?  I haven't encountered a church that doesn't have someone like this who is there to make sure everything gets set up.  I would call the church and ask if there is someone you can speak to and see if they could come in and decorate before the ceremony.

If you are using a florist, they will usually set everything up for you.
