Question about Bridesmaid Dresses

Hi everyone,

I have a question about bridesmaid dresses. I'm getting married at the end of May, and I have five bridesmaids. I chose a bridesmaid designer, length, and color, and had everyone pick out the style she liked best. I wanted to allow ample time for everyone to make a decision, but it took a bit longer than I expected, so I'm just now ready to place the order. I'd heard dresses should be ordered about 4-6 months prior to the wedding, so I hadn't been too concerned, but now I'm really starting to worry that I've let this go too long. For those of you that have been through this before, do you think I've left a reasonable amount of time for the dresses to arrive and be altered? Or should I be concerned?

Also, I'm trying to make a final decision today between using RK Bridal, Netbride, or Pearl's Place to order the dresses. I've read some very positive things about Netbride on this board, and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the other two vendors, and if so, whether people were happy with the speed and quality of service.

Thanks so much in advance!

Re: Question about Bridesmaid Dresses

  • My BMs ordered the first days of November and got their dresses a week or so ago - that's just over 2 months, including the holidays. So you will probably be fine for most designers, but ditto Stage, you should check with the pros to make sure.
  • Thanks so much for the input! I appreciate the advice!
  • It really depends on the vendor.  I used David's Bridal for our May wedding last year.  They placed their orders in February and March and got them in plenty of time.  I think other designers have a little more lag time, though.
  • BTW, I used netbride and loved them. I have a review on my bio. I also used RK for MY dress and it was also stellar. However, I didn't ship my dress since I live in NYC. The netbride order was for the bm dresses and they shipped them to various locations!

  • Thanks again everyone!  It's really helpful to hear about other people's experiences.
  • I used Pearl's Place because that was where I found the best price for Alfred Angelo jersey knits, which were the majority vote by my WP.  I haven't received them yet, but was told 3-4 months with a flat shipping fee if they were sent to one address and ordered on one card.

As for timeline, we are getting married at the end of May as well and BM dresses were just ordered last week.

I used netbride for the BM dresses and my dress and had a great experience.  Not all of them carry all designers so you might want to check and see which ones carry the designer you picked.  I personally haven't used RK or Pearl's Place but have heard good things about both.  I believe RK still has a policy to price match others plus take off an additional 5%.  (I got netbride to match that policy so they knocked off 5% from their quote so you could try that, too).

  • I should also add that I called Pearl's Place first, got the cheapest price from them, and then called up Netbride and they price matched. I had heard better news about netbride....well, more reviews than pearls. Doesn't mean they aren't good.....the ladies who used them were just not speaking up when I asked. HTH

  • I have had SEVERAL bad experiences with Pearl's Place as far as ordering the dresses from the actual store (since they are local to me). I have found that they do not have the best customer service in the store. I am not sure if ordering from their phone system would be any better, but I personally wouldn't trust then in a time crunch. I think you are still good as far as getting them in plenty enough time, but I have read much better things about netbride. Hope that helps, and good luck if you do order from them, they do have a great selection, and I hope that their 1-800 # is easier to deal with.
