Bridesmaid's dress for BM who just had a baby

Hello all!

One of my bridesmaids is pregnant and will have had her baby one month before my wedding.  This is her first baby, so she has no idea what her body will look like.  Are there any women out there who can suggest a dress silhouette/material that will flatter a very recently post-pregnancy body?  Or, for that matter, any dress silhouette/material that I definitely want to stay away from for her?  I know from other posts that getting a dress two sizes bigger than her normal size is a good idea.  Thank you!

I'd imagine an empire waistline would be fine [assuming I'm correct in thinking that's the one where the dress gathers just under the boobs, and flows out from there...] I'd avoid any sort of figure hugging look as between buying the dress and wearing it, her body could change shape a whole lot, even in just a coupla weeks. A bit vague, I know... Hope it helps a little...
So, maybe things don't always go as planned... Maybe that's okay. I may be alone for now, but my baby boy is on his way, and I wouldn't change a thing.
  • My BM is having her baby about 3 wks prior.  We chose a dress that is a kind of empire waist.  She also went to get fitted around 4-5 months because according to her aunt who owns a bridal shop, that would be about the size she would be that soon after.  I think she ordered up a size to account for the extra cup sizes though.  Also, straps are going to be her best friend, so don't pick a strapless one, or one that doesn't have enough material for them to make straps.  We also went with chiffon because I thought the flowy material would be more flattering.

  • If she's planning on nursing, you'lll want something she can easily take down on top, without having to get completely undressed. Whether she'll be nursing the baby or pumping milk, she'll need to get access as easy as possible so she doesn't leak. At one month she'd be nursing or pumping probably every 2 or 3 hours, so make sure you give her time for that too. You're a great friend for wanting to make her feel beautiful, especially when post-partum body image can be tricky - good job! Laughing
  • DItto that if she's nursing, you'll want a dress that allows 'easy access' for nursing/pumping.

You may still be OK with a maternity dress at that phase.  At 1 mo PP, I could wear maternity pants or you can go with a dress several sizes larger than her normal size.   I'd go for an empire waist or something not body hugging at all.
  • These responses are SO helpful - thank you so much, ladies!
  • We did this exact thing at my college roommate's wedding. Her sister, the Maid of Honor was due to deliver six weeks before the wedding. Everything went as planned, and we all a sweetheart neckline empire waist with optional straps. This worked for two reasons: 1) Sarah had NO idea how she would look after delivery and 2) it was Labor Day weekend in Texas, which also meant we had no way of knowing if it would be 110 degrees, so chiffon would breathe for her and all of us.

Really hard. But I wanna do that because I want you

  • HI, I know one online site that could do the perfect materinal dress. You could go and check it. JenJenHouse.com

I recently bought one dress from them.

It arrived on time as promised and seriously is amazing! I paid 100.00 for this dress and it looks like I paid 500 for it! So pleased with this purchase!

Also, recently they have an activity on their FB. You could go and have a look.

You could also see the reviews on their website first and then decide.
