MOH??

Could I ask my FI's 16 year old sister to be my MOH?

Re: MOH??

  • you can ask anyone you want....theres not age requirement. Your MOH should be the person you are super close with and who you feel is the msot valuable and supportive in your life and the person you want to be there by your side when you take such a big step in life.

  • Sure, but your MOH should be your closest friend in the world. If you feel that way about FI's sister, great.

The only thing with her being 16 would be if you live in a state where you need witnesses to sign the license. If that's the case, you just ask an alternate person to sign.
  • Absolutely... just remember that it's a lot of work to put on a 16 year old girl who is going to be busy with schoolwork and possibly extracurricular activities and might not have as much time/attention to devote as you'll need. The MOH does more than just stand up there next to you, she also usually organizes both the Bridal Shower and the Bachlorette party, as well as organizes the bridesmaids to help you with addressing invites, etc. (anything you might be doing yourself for the wedding). As a 16 year old, it's possible she's never even been a bridesmaid, and so might not realize how many duties she has or how important those duties are are.

If you think it'll be fine, then go for it! =)

MOH's not obligated to do any of this stuff.

Whoever wants to plan the parties can step up and do it. The parties aren't even mandatory, so technically NOBODY has to throw them. Chances are, though, someone else will probably offer to plan it and MOH can help out as she wishes.

It's also not the MOH's job to round up the bridesmaids to help with addressing invites, etc. Nor is it the bridesmaids' set-in-stone job to help out with this, period. The bride and her FI can do this themselves (it's not rocket science, for Pete's sake), or if the bride really needs help then SHE can politely ask her friends if they are willing to help. MOH isn't responsible for rounding up the troops on Bride's behalf.

  • As others have said, the MOH is traditionally your witness if your county/state requires someone else to sign the license (and not all do). So you may need to ask someone else to do that, but anyone over age 18 who witnessed the ceremony can do so. That's really the only concession you'd have to make to her age.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Yes, why couldn't you?

  • Sure! You MOH should be someone who is closest to you. As pp's have said, the MOH has no "duties" other than to stand beside you, as I'm sure you already know. She'll be glad of the honour, and how nice to feel that way about your FSIL.

OP: Yes your FSIL can be your MOH. If you need someone to sign as your witness (that varies from state to state), any legal adult who witnesses the ceremony can sign. It doesn't have to be the MOH.

As for all of the above: nonsense. None of that, contrary to what wedding tv shows, wedding magazines, wedding planning books, and wedding websites would have you believe are requirements for members of a WP.

Those lists of "duties" appear in wedding industry publications, and their sole purpose is to convince you and your friends to spend $$ on the products their advertisers sell.

Ask your FSIL. She'll be thrilled! Congrats.

  • Thanks and im sure with all the party planning that stuff if they want to do that my FMIL would love to do that, she's already fussed at my FI and I about not telling her our plans (before we even had time to announce)!!
