I went to the shop that I got my dress at to get BM dresses. I'd researched online and found one that fit all of the qualifications of the BMs and me.  It's Alfred Sung d409.  Anyway they no longer carry that brand and their website is out of date.  The problem is the closest dealer is an hour and a half away so I called to see if they have the dress in stock.. they don't but they gave me the price of $240.  I have found it online from $67 to 121.  I dont at all understand the price difference-- yes the ones online were new.  The ones in my local shop are a little over the quoted prices online but not ridiculous and we'll happily pay for good service.  Unfortunately they dont have any dresses we like.. Lot's of bows, strapless, etc. I know you can add sleeves but why pay for alterations when you can get the dress you want in the first place?

So...  has anyone ordered BM dresses online and how did it go? It is too big of a risk.  The shop said that they are taking about 16 weeks to come in right now so we need to decide in the next two weeks.  I've asked the BMs and I'm waiting for a response from them but what do you guys think?

I ordered dresses online and there was no risk because all my girls had tried on the dresses throughout the country. Therefore, we already knew that the dresses looked good on them. I would not order dresses if they haven't tried them on. All designers are different. Fabrics are different....have the girls told you they like the dress or did you pick it out? Not all dresses look good on every girl. Some look good on only the model or even the hanger.

I wouldn't buy a dress without trying it on, but once I've tried it on, I'm comfortable buying from any online retailer with decent reviews.  If I were you, I'd keep looking, or open yourself up to the possibility of choosing a few basic requirements (such as designer, fabric, length, color, etc) and allowing your girls to pick their own dress.

Ughh.. I know. We tried on a bunch in the store that we found out we didn't like! So no, no one has ever tried on the dress.  They dont seem to have it anywhere near here.  Why is it so hard to find a dress that you can wear a real bra with, doesnt have funky material and gathers,  is tea length and doesnt have a bow on the butt??? 

I know you are all right as I found a bunch online that when we saw them they weren't nearly as flattering as we thought they would be. No, I'm not just picking a dress for them they want to match and gave me the "requirements" sounds bad but isn't. I just have the most free time right now and am trying to make it easy for them. I'm the only one with a flexible job schedule and no kids.

Are there stores with Alfred Sung dresses in the same fabric?  They could try on a dress in that fabric, and a dress in a similar style from another brand.

Some of the online places are knockoffs, but others are reputable like Pearl's Place, RK Bridal and Netbride.  We ordered from Pearl's Place at the end of December and I'm hoping the dresses will come in by the end of March.

Dawn, I would give them back requirements, like color, fabric, and length and just let them go at it in a department store if you can't find something that everyone likes. It's really "in" right now to let girls wear different dresses that match their bodies and personalities.

Ditto Stina.  I think it's great that you're trying to look out for your BMs, but this might be the best route to take.  It makes sure that everyone is wearing something that is figure-flattering and budget friendly.
