Wedding Party

What should my MOH do?

I was texting back and forth with my MOH last night (I love her so much and she's so awesome), and she asked what her responsibilities (her wording, not mine) were.  I told her that her responsibilities were to enjoy the sun and sand and be entertaining.  Yeah, she wants more and I'm not even sure what kinds of things a MOH would do.  I don't know if she had thought about a bach party or shower or not, I imagine so as we talked about ideas last summer.  We're doing a DW and I'm flying a coordinator friend out to orchestrate things that need orchestrating.

So, any ideas?

Re: What should my MOH do?

  • I wouldn't come up with busy work for her if there is truly nothing for her to do.  I'd just tell her that you're happy that she's offering and that you'll call her if and when things come up.  Since she's so insistent, I'd ask her if there's anything she particularly wants to do (that opens the door for her to say "shower" or "bach party.").

"I think bablingbrooke is the 13 yr old marring her cousin at the town hall. Lets all give her a big hand. And hope her inbred children can live normal lives." -tabs.

A word of warning from your friends at Cracked.com: Remember that text is going to be how you make your first impression over the internet; if every third word you type is misspelled, people will automatically assume that you're a moron.
  • I would not mention a shower or bachelorette (because it's rude to ask someone to throw you a party, which it sounds like you're well-aware of :) ), but like Brooke said you could talk about it if she brings it up.

I also agree not to create jobs for her if you really don't have anything that you could use her help with. But if there's something you think she'd enjoy - maybe shopping for shoes, putting together invites over a bottle of wine, looking for hairstyles - pitch the idea and see if she bites.

  • if she's searching for things to help out on, you can always ask for her to assist you with the "fun-things-at-first-but-after-200-of-them-they-become-tedious" jobs, like invitiations or putting together favors. remember that she's asking to help though, and that doesn't warrant a binding contract. so if she has to scale it down later, don't get upset because of her original zeal :). she may be pooped!
  • I agree with asking her if there is anything she would like to do. I would just include her by asking her opinion on foods, dresses, flowers, etc. Like abby said stuffing invitations and favors is another good area for help. If you guys have previously discussed showers or bach parties she will end up busy with that stuff later on and your coordinator can handle the tedious stuff.

    PS-I like your sig pic.
