Vaguely WR: Article on CNN

I found this today:
http://tinyurl.com/y7m8y3l

CN for those who don't feel like reading the whole thing: Author was on an airplane next to Brian who is in love with Amy. Brian moved cross-country, Amy didn't. They drifted apart. Amy is now engaged and Brian is flying there to "win her back" and tell her that he loves her. Author writes him a love note to give to Amy.

How do you feel about this? How would you feel if you were Amy?

ETA: Had to change the link size. Sorry about that!

I think the author is a self-righteous twit.  You know why she didn't hear back from B about whether or not it worked?  Because it failed, miserably.  Think about it:

He left, Amy didn't follow.  Probably sign #1 that she wasn't in love with him.  Sign #2 would be that she got engaged to someone else.  If my ex of 3 years flew halfway across the country, out of the blue, to tell me that he was madly in love with me, and THEN presented me with a letter that was (probably) obviously written by a 30+ year old professional writer, I would slam the door in his face.  I may even consider a protection order, because that's just creepy.

Stuff like that only happens in the movies, and this author was certainly not writing a hollywood script.
Holy Crap. We survived the first year!

  • Thank you, Tide. I started typing basically everything you said and then got sick of it halfway through. Because this is not some amazing adventure designed to spice up the author's life, this is the plot of a bad movie applied to some dumb kid who is now out one plane ticket and some pride.

If I were Amy, I'd punch Brian in the face.

Probably not, cause that's not how I roll, but I'd really want to. She's happy. Leave her alone. Don't mess up her life with her new FI. If he really loves her and wishes the best for her, he should realize the best might not be HIM.

Come to think of it, Amy's FI might punch Brian in the face.

  • I felt the same way. I was reading it and was just like, really? Does anyone think that Amy is going to do anything other than laugh in this guy's face? How can the author even feel good at attempting to meddle in this stupid situation.

It just smacked of total ridiculousness. Tide, I totally agree with you.

  • Tide you said it all. I know that people are supposed to read this and think it is sooooo romantic but I think its crap.  He moved away from her and left her behind. She moved on, got engaged, and is happy. Brian sounds like a creepy loser and this woman sounds stupid and narcissistic.

If my ex ever did this, I would kick him in the nuts for even trying to confuse me!

Also, it bothers me that the author was a woman. That just seems like something a man would do...but, shouldn't a woman have known better?

Well and that's what I thought was so stupid about the whole thing. She makes fun of the male flight attendant in the article because he suggest chocolate sauce, rose petals and fluffy handcuffs to win the girl back.

And yet at no point and time does she criticize herself for thinking that a heartfelt note written by someone who doesn't even know the effing girl is going to change Amy's mind about whether she wants to marry her fiance.

    C'est ridicule!

  • What a couple of selfish bastards.  This wasn't even cute when Julia Roberts tried it.

It's times like these I am so glad I got a restraining order on my ex before I got engaged.

Seriously, I'm with Tide. She didn't follow him cross country, she got engaged to somebody else ... Unless this guy really is The One, there's no way in hell something like this would actually work.
