Tux Rentals

So we went to Men's Wearhouse today to pick out tuxes. This is the best location since his WP is from all over & only location they can all get to, to order from. Anyways we found a tux for $125 for the guys to wear. I know with the BMs you are supposed to ask their budget beforehand, but tuxes seem kind of cut & dry (you could get a $90 tux rental but there were kinda "eh"). Should FI ask if this price is okay with them & offer to help chip in if they need it? His tux was free so he'd gladly pass on the savings to them (approx. $25 each). WWYD?

Re: Tux Rentals

  • Yes you absolutely need to ask them about the budget.  Don't say that you found a tux and if it will be okay, it will be harder for them to say if they can't afford it.

Just ask what their budget is.  DH said that when he spoke to his gm and asked them about budget, all of them were expecting a tux rental, so odds are your gm are too, but it would be very rude to not ask.

  • Most guys I know don't ask, but you really should.
  • did your husband's friends know the cost of a rental already? i never knew how much they cost until today -- idk if this is a good/standard price?

  • Yes, they knew a tux cost about $100.  They had all been to prom in the past.  :P

  • Generally anywhere in the $150 or under range is OK.  More than that and it's borderline insane for something that they need to return.
  • I would ask just because they might be thinking that they can just choose the cheapest tux and be set. The guys in our bp, including FI, are not big into dressing up so they are just going to get the cheapest tuxes they can rent. The price sounds reasonable but it would be polite to ask them their budget first.

  • Yes, you should still ask.

  • Honestly I will admit I didnt ask, I chose the tuxes myself. lol. The groom wanted one that werent in line with the colors we choose and didnt understand why I didnt like it.

Anyways, I know we personally got the cheapest tux option  @ 69.99 BECAUSE we cant afford much so we dont expect them to. AND because after the 45 min ceremony and hour or so for photos there jackets are comming off and that really is the biggest difference in the tux packages.
