NWPR: Disclosing personal information online

How much personal information do you think is too much to disclose online?  I've been working on a planning bio and I'm not sure if it's a good idea to list my ceremony and reception venu information there considering the availability of my wedding date?  Am I just paranoid?

Re: NWPR: Disclosing personal information online

  • If I remember correctly, I had pictures of our church and reception in my planning bio, but not the names.  In reality, anyone local could have figured out what they were.  I don't think it's such a huge deal.

I trusted all of our vendors enough that I knew that they wouldn't let someone pretending to be me call and cancel without at least a follow up email, and I really wasn't worried that some nut would just show up.
  • I don't know, I think it is personal preference. I listed mine, but I think it really depends on your comfort level.
    Anniversary
    White Knot
    Lilypie First Birthday tickers
  • Thanks, ladies :)

  • Personally, I'd leave out the names but that's just me.  You can always go back after the wedding to add them.
  • I listed mine & nothing happened, but I've heard of some people having their contracts canceled by stalkers.  I don't know if it's true or just urban legend, though.
  • Banana, I really like your suggestion!  I think that's probably what I'll do.

  • if someone really wants to mess with you, they will regardless of what information you do or don't put online. all someone needs is your name (or less) and they can find out anything they want about you. it's really not hard.
  • I wasn't planning on using anything more than first names.  Although I've tried to find FI online by googling his name and can't because it's too common. :P

Mostly it's as Stage said - I want to practice good general safety.  What I look like, what our first names are, it's not a whole lot.  But where we'll be on a specific date at a specific time seems like more.

I felt silly asking this question, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask anyway. :)

  • I have the vendors, but not the date.  That way if locals see my bio, they can get the pertinent information regarding my experience with those vendors.
  • I thought about this before deciding that there probably aren't too many people from Santiago cruising TK and leaving the name in. But on my blog, which people in Chile do read, I didn't say the venue name. Yes, someone could have hardcore stalked me to find my TK bio, but I felt like it was being sensible without being crazy paranoid. If I lived in the US, I probably wouldn't have put the venue names in until after the wedding.
