July 2012 Weddings

What would you do? (PIP)

My wedding colors are Navy, Yellow and White/Ivory.

FI, GM and Fathers are all wearing the same tan suit/tuxedo. FI is wearing an ivory vest and tie and GM are wearing navy vest and tie.

I haven't quite decided what color for the dads...I am torn between navy like the GM or using like a brown as kind of a neutral color.

Navy
Brown

We're doing tan suits too! Who did you go through?

Anyway, My dad and FI's dad are wearing the same color as the GM (FI will have Ivory & GM/Dads will have Champagne). I debated about doing something different as well. Honestly, I really like the way the navy looks under the tan a lot more than the brown. So, I vote navy for everyone.

  • I voted for Navy too. Not a huge fan of the brown since it's just adding another neutral color to the mix. You already have neutrals.

  • I vote for the navy too! I am having a hard time deciding what to have the dads wear. My FI and GM are wearing a  light khaki colored linen suit. My dad said he wants to wear a  black tux, but I'm worried the pcitures would look wierd if he is a black tux and everyone else is in khaki suits,  Opinions?

We are going through just a local shop, but the suit is Jean Yves!!
  • lvissers - There won't be many photos of him with the GM, right? It would just be a concern for when you take family photos with you and your fiance? If that's the case, I think he can wear a tux if he wants - he's the FOB. Plus, is he walking you down the aisle? If so, it will be "special" for him to be wearing a tux.

    Just a thought :)

  • Bridetobe - Thanks for the advice. There won't be many pictures with him and the groomsmen, just a couple shots of FI and I and my mom and dad. I think you're right that it wont' really matter. My mom has been bugging me about finding out what he should wear.

I agree with this.  We did grey tuxes for the guys but all of the dads are in a black tux.  Each dad chose their own color vest and tie.  I didn't want everyone to be matchy matchy.

Thanks. We checked a bunch of places and had a hard time finding a tan suit. We're going through Jos A. Bank, but it was kind of a process. Ugh. Which reminds me, I've got to call them and tell them I need to suits earlier than Thursday. Our wedding is Friday and a lot of the GM are out of town.

While I agree that your father has a special place as FOB and no one would ever confuse your dad for the groom, a tuxedo would definitely upstage your groom.  I think it would look weird.  A dark suit would be ok but a full on black tux, bow tie and cumberbun would be a bit much IMO.  It would be like your mom wearing a really fancy white dress.

This! It's not the color that matters, it's the formality. If your groom is wearing a suit, than you don't really want anyone else (even the FOB) wearing a tux. My dad wanted to wear his tux b/c he bought it and has barely gotten a chance to wear it, but I asked him not to, b/c my FI is wearing a suit. He totally understood.. he had just assumed that my FI would wear a tux but since he isn't, my dad is going to wear a suit.
