NWR: Who wears glasses?

How did any of us make informed decisions prior to WP? Lol.

I have my first eye appointment ever on Saturday, and I pretty much know that I'm going to have to get glasses. I can see pretty good, but my distance is starting to go. Mostly, I going to need them for driving and reading faraway stuff (Like the TV screen when playing XBox). I've never had to wear them before, and the only people I know that need glasses, are people that pretty much live in contact lenses (Which is clearly, not necessary for me)

I usually wear sunglasses when I drive during the day, so needing glasses for actual driving is leading me to wonder what other people that wear glasses do in these situations. I've heard about the lenses that tint when exposed to sunlight, so I was thinking about maybe getting that, but I don't want to spend the extra money if it doesn't actually work well. I know that wire frames also have those clip-on things ... but honestly, wire frames make me look like a little old lady, lol.

Anybody have any recommendations?

  • Ditto psichick. My mom has the transitions and they don't change in the car at all. I think that's their only drawback because otherwise outdoors they work like a charm.

I wear glasses (mostly) and like a little old lady, I just get really huge sunglasses and put them on over my glasses. I never got the prescription sunglasses because they're so. expensive.

  • Hmm ... good to know the transitions won't change in the car, considering that's where I need sunglasses the most ...

I have tried that but it always feels so awkard to me, like the sunglasses are going to fall off at any given moment.  Maybe my nose just isn't shaped right for holding 2 sets of glasses.
  • I think they just stay on because I have a big head - much to my mom's chagrin, I'm sure. Most sunglasses fit tight side to side, so they don't slip.

Sometimes I forget and don't take off the sunglasses when I'm out of the car and talking to people. I'm such a dork.

  • Before i got lasik last summer, i had to go without contacts for a month. It was a pain. Id suggest a separate pair of sunglasses. The idea of transition lenses always gives me the mental image of the geeky guy in middle school with the half shaded glasses. Now i work with that exact person, but his glasses are no longer tinted on the top of the lenses. Thank goodness! Gosh, i am tangential tonight. Must need to take meds.
