Wedding Party

Looking to get some opinions here.  My sister is getting married next year. I plan on hosting a shower for her.  One of the bridesmaids lives on the other side of the country and most likely will not be attending the shower.  Should the rest of the bridal party still be asking her to contribute to the shower preperations and gift?

It's not ok to ask any of them for money.

Tell them you are planning a shower and ask if anyone is interested in co-hosting.  If so, then you can ask how much money they'd like to contribute.

Sisters aren't really supposed to plan showers for brides.

But aside from that issue, no, you can't ask them for money.  You can invite them to co-host, and if anyone agrees, you can ask them if they will contribute and how much, but you cannot ask them to contribute a specific amount.
