Re: WPBP of the day

  • Do you plan to get a Christmas tree? Yep, already got one.
Real or fake? It's real! We were debating on getting a fake one this year because we'll be out of town. But if we go fake, I want it to be fake. I want a silver or crazy colored tinsel tree.
Your ornaments; where did you get most of them? Pier One Imports. I love all the different cute ones they have.
Your favorite ornament is a fluffy bird that my sister bought me a couple of years back. She has one too. We still aren't talking to each other because she's still dating that con man guy,  but I know that we still love each other.

    (pic if you have one)
Something funny to share with the board: Trixie smells like throw up! Okay, maybe that's not funny since she woke up at 5 to throw up in her crate, but she doesn't seem to care about the smell and is running all over the place....

  • Do you plan to get a Christmas tree? Yep and we already have one.

Real or fake? Fake. It makes more sense for us.

Your ornaments; where did you get most of them? 80% are one's DH had growing up, made by himself, other people and just a random explosion. We got a few more store bought (Garden Ridge) to fill in the holes.

Your favorite ornament is __________(pic if you have one) I'd have to look to pick a favorite. I can't remember what's on the tree right now.

Something funny to share with the board: I got nothing.

  • Do you plan to get a Christmas tree? Yup!  A little one because we have a teeny-tiny apartment, but I really want a tree.

    Real or fake? Real!

Your ornaments; where did you get most of them? My parents, and we bought a few.

Your favorite ornament is __________(pic if you have one)  The ornament we sold at my work last year...the stained glass window at of the Nativity a our church.

Something funny to share with the board: While we were decorating my parents' house yesterday, my sister's cat got freaked out and bounced around the room with his tail the size of a feather duster.  He was bounding all over the room and jumping in and out of boxes, it was hilarious.

Do you plan to get a Christmas tree? Yep, we bought a new one this year.

Real or fake? Fake. I can only tempt the fates so much with our cats before it ends in a tree lying on the floor surrounded by water and broken ornaments.

Your ornaments; where did you get most of them? We got a lot on sale at craft stores. We were also given a bunch at our wedding. My H and I also give each other ornaments every year for Christmas.

Your favorite ornament is dueling banjo Santa/reindeer. H's best friend gave it to us at our wedding. It is awesome. They play Deck the Halls and dance. I can't get enough of it.

Something funny to share with the board:
Hmmm...Children were lined up in a Catholic school cafeteria for lunch. There was a pile of apples that was marked with a note from one of the nuns that said, "Take only one. God is watching." At the end of the line was a pile of cookies. Scrawled by one of the students, the pile was marked with a note that said, "Take all you want...God is watching the apples."

Yuk yuk. This is why I wasn't a standup comedian.

  • Do you plan to get a Christmas tree? Yes, finally! It'll be our first tree in Chile...H's family doesn't do one, so he doesn't care, and I haven't gotten my act together for the previous 2.

Real or fake? Fake. It's summer here, there are no real trees.

Your ornaments; where did you get most of them? I brought several from home...they're my favorites from childhood and some that were my great-grandma's. My mom's company used to do a holiday ornament exchange every year, so actually a lot of our ornaments are from that.

Your favorite ornament is I can't pick just one. I have some that are really pretty - a blown glass sphere - and some that are just favorite childhood memories, like the totally random strawberry ornament my dad's had since he was a kid.

Something funny to share with the board: We have 2 dogs right now (one is a foster waiting to go to our friend), and I took them to the park with 2 tennis balls thinking that would mean 1 ball/dog. No. The foster is about 5 months old and didn't really get the concept of bringing the ball back, so Lola would go get her ball and then go try to pick up Nala's ball too. She is a cocker spaniel - no way she could carry both at once, but it was funny to watch her try and funny to watch clumsy little Nala trying to catch the ball in the first place.

Do you plan to get a Christmas tree?
We have one already, hopefully it's going up either tonight or tomorrow.

    Real or fake?
Fake. And pre-lit. Oh yes, we are that kind of lazy, lol.

Your ornaments; where did you get most of them?
My mom actually gave us a set of really pretty ornaments as an early Christmas present the first year we were living together. I don't know where she bought them, but I think they're pretty.

Your favorite ornament is __________(pic if you have one)
It hasn't been on the tree before, and I don't have a picture, but it's a WDW 2010 commemorative ornament DH and I bought on our HM. It's blue and shaped like Mickey. It's not exceptionally "pretty" or anything like that, I just love the sentiment behind it.

Something funny to share with the board:
So for anybody not affiliated with WoW, the new expansion (Cataclysm) comes out at midnight. I already know that the game will not be functioning as well (If at all) tomorrow due to major updates ... but I really don't want to wait much longer than that to start up my goblin. So I'm pretty sure I'm going to be "coming down with a cold" on Wednesday. Yes, I am that much of a loser, lol.

Do you plan to get a Christmas tree?
    It's up now

    Real or fake?
Fake.  I grew up with real ones but picking pine needles out of the carpeting in July sucks.  I also made sure to get one that wasn't prelit and has berries and pinecones on it.

Your ornaments; where did you get most of them?
Every Christmas my mom gets each of her kids an ornament.  When we were kids she made them.  Chris only has a few ornaments (first real Christmas tree he's had in about 20 years) but his mom made them all.

Your favorite ornament is __________(pic if you have one)
I have two.  The first, my mom made when I was a little girl and always wore my hair in braids.

The second one she gave me a few years ago when I stopped straightening my hair and started to wear it curly.

    Only my Santa story:
Santa would make an appearance at my grandparents every year.  At three I asked him if I could see Rudolf.  He told me I could next year.  At four, I tried to hold him to his promise and when he said he didn't remember saying this, I crossed my arms, squinted my eyes and repeated our conversation back to him word for word.  I don't remember how the adults got him out of this one but I'm sure it was over my very loud protests that Santa was a liar.

  • Do you plan to get a Christmas tree? Indeed

Real or fake? Real at my parent's, fake in our apartment (that whole fire hazard, not allowed to have one fiasco)

Your ornaments; where did you get most of them? The Christmas Tree Shop.  I'm assuming when we have children, we'll get more homemade ornaments.  I love that.

Your favorite ornament is __________(pic if you have one) I have silver Christmas bells.  One bell for each year since I was born until I turned 21.

Something funny to share with the board: Our Elf on a Shelf is named Delphie the Elfie.
  • Do you plan to get a Christmas tree?
No.  We got one last year but it was a bit of a pain to deal with.  We leave to see our parents for two weeks during Christmas.  When we stay here for Christmas we'll get another tree.

    Real or fake?
    Real.  I like the smell.

Your ornaments; where did you get most of them?
DH and I have been giving each other ornaments every Christmas so they've come from all over.

Your favorite ornament is I don't think I have a favorite just yet.

Something funny to share with the board:  I'm out.  It's too early for me to actually think.

  • Do you plan to get a Christmas tree?  We have one up right now!

Real or fake?  It's fake.  We live in a tiny little apartment, so it just makes sense.

Your ornaments; where did you get most of them?  They're all FIs.  I've never bought ornaments for myself.  At my parents there are a whole bunch from when I was a kid, but I just haven't needed to buy any yet.  I'm waiting till we have our own place with a big tree.

Your favorite ornament is __________(pic if you have one)  I don't have one.

Something funny to share with the board:
It's a series of Boondocks comics that amuse me. :)

  • Do you plan to get a Christmas tree?  Not this year, no room and no time.

Real or fake?  I have a fairly nice fake tree that I'm looking to get rid of, we don't want to schlep it out to KC.

Your ornaments; where did you get most of them?  Mostly they're an assortment of stuff we got growing up.  My mom divided up the ornaments among us kids.

Your favorite ornament is __________(pic if you have one)  Honestly, I don't really remember.  We put up the tree last year, but didn't bother with the ornaments, and we're not doing any of it this year.  I know I have a little felt angel from when I had my extra kidney out, though.

Something funny to share with the board:  Saturday night DH and I were playing Hell's Kitchen on the Wii, and I commented that we were doing really well, but that I could totally see how something like this could destroy a marriage.  DH's response was, "Yeah, but we're talking, so it works."  Then we realized that neither of us had actually said a word the entire time we were playing, we're just that in sync.  It amused be greatly.

2 years ago, I called in "My complex hasn't been plowed yet" so I could finish playing Sukoden II. There really was snow on the ground (Lots of it actually ... and the office did wind up closing because so many other people called out anyway), but I totally could have made it into work if I had felt like it. But, yeah, defeating the evil empire and saving Nanami were way more important.

Luckily I have the full week between Christmas and New Year's off.  Last year I had wedding crafts to keep me productive; I'm hoping to be similarly productive this year and clean the house or write or something, but I'm pretty sure I'll just be playing Wii until my arms fall off.  (I spent 7 hours straight playing Epic Mickey yesterday; it's not that intensive a game but I am SO SORE.)  Back when DH was working weekends, he usually wouldn't get much done on his days off because he was, in his words, "saving the world" on his various NES ROMs.

  • I'm lucky to get paid sick leave from work. I get 5 days every year, and in my company it's "use 'em or lose 'em". If I'm actually sick, of course, I'll use a day for it ... but I don't actually get sick very often. So usually, I just stagger my days through out the year to do something either fun (Like going to see a mid-week matinee to avoid crowded theatres) or incredibly lazy (Like spending the day gaming in my PJs) with the time.

I wish I had the full week between Christmas and New Year's off. Oh the things I could do with an extra week off ... sigh.

It's one of the advantages of working for a school.  Campus is actually closed that week, so it's PTO for everyone.  I remember the HR guy said his favorite part of orientation was always seeing people's reactions when they learned that.

I'm really very fortunate in my PTO with this job.  We accrue one day each of sick and vacation time per month worked until you hit a certain threshhold, and we can use it pretty freely.  Last year I knocked off an hour or so early on Christmas Eve, and made up for that with vacation pay.  Disney actually worked the same way if you were full-time, it was one of the few ways they treated employees well.  It makes me a little nervous to be job hunting again, thinking that I'm spoiled now and I won't find another place with a similar policy...

This is actually one of the reasons I don't want to leave the place I'm at. I definitely have it good here. I get my sick days, I get 2 weeks vacation, and on top of all that, instead of cash, they usually give us extra personal days to use for whatever during the year as a Christmas bonus (Which, imo, is better than cash). Plus, they will close for things like bad weather. This is the only job I've ever had that actually will close if a state of emergency is declared.

I sometimes think it's sad that I get happy about something like that, but really, after the lousy jobs I've put up with (For incredibly lousy pay), I really appreciate that sort of thing. And I do get scared that if we have to move or something, that I'll never be able to get it this good someplace else.

Do you plan to get a Christmas tree? Real or fake? Fake.  Cheaper and easier to move.

Your ornaments; where did you get most of them?  Since I was a kid, every time we traveled somewhere we picked up three Christmas ornaments--one for my mom and one for both me and my sister.  I've carried that on and bought an ornament every time I travel somewhere, even if it's not technically an ornament (example: I found little keychains of stuffed bears wearing kimonos in Japan, and that's our Japan ornament).  When I got my own place after graduating college my mom gave me all my ornaments in a box and had each one labeled in a bag.  So we have about 30 ornaments on the tree, each one with a story behind it.  Pretty awesome family tradition :)

Your favorite ornament is __________(pic if you have one): Hate to cop out, but since each one has sentimental value and a memory, I literally can't pick just one.  ETA: Though I am a bit partial to this one, which I bought at Disneyland the weekend before our wedding:

(A little fuzzy since I took it with my phone but it's Mickey and Minnie on a diamond ring.)

Something funny to share with the board: I've been going to bed well after DH the past few days since I've been up late studying, and last night just as I was coming to bed he started talking about welfare reform in his sleep.  I've discovered a lot of gems like that lately; might have to start a blog.

The Cataclysm updates showed up on our game right after Thanksgiving.  It's been pretty trippy the way everything's changed.  Haven't played in a few days, though, and probably won't be able to until after exams.  Hell, I shouldn't even be here right now, but this is my 5th round of law school exams, my grades don't count, so you do the math.

I'm actually really glad that they tried to patch as many major changes as possible leading up to the release (Including the world "breaking"). It seems like all that's really left to patch in are the Goblins, the Worgens, and the level 85 cap on everybody.

Being on the East Coast sucks during major changes, as we usually don't have the game back up until dinner time. That's why I'm opting to "be sick" on Wednesday instead (The game should be fully running by then). No point in staying home on Tuesday if I'm most likely not getting to play until after I'd normally be home from work anyway, lol.

I can't wait to make my goblin! I'm so excited to start a new character!

I haven't played WoW in many a moon, but all the Cataclysm ads have made me really curious about how they're going to handle basically redrawing the map, especially for players who don't buy the expansion.

We didn't buy the expansion but nearly every zone is different in some way without it., some much more than others.  New music too.  Which is great--I don't feel the need to rush out and buy Cataclysm, though I'll probably get it for DH for his birthday next month then borrow his computer a lot :)

I kind of wish I could get DH into WoW so we could play together, but he's sort of a 100% completionist and vastly prefers story to level-grinding, so it's really not his thing; he'd either get sucked in and never see the light of day again, or play for ten minutes and get bored.  No happy medium.  Ah well.

<div>DH has played it for years.  The only reason I got into it is when he was moving to the west coast and I was pretty devastated about being by myself on the east coast for the next 10 months, he suggested I get it so we could play together.  It was actually a really good idea--we had many WoW dates and it definitely helped keep me sane.  Plus he was a really high level so he helped me level really quickly :)</div>

  • Do you plan to get a Christmas tree? have both of them up already

Real or fake? fake - we've been out of town a lot and will be gone again over Christmas and New Years

Your ornaments; where did you get most of them? Grandma sent a lot to me when she downgraded to a 4 foot tree.  Most are probably from the Christmas Tree Shop.  Grandma loves that place.

Your favorite ornament is a UofR bulb(pic if you have one)

Something funny to share with the board: There's this guy in my home-town who has a Christmas light show every year.  Mom, FI, and I sat w/Noppy in the car to watch.  Some people walked by and Noopy barked (once), completely scarring one of the guys.

Do you plan to get a Christmas tree? We already have one. We don't really have a lot of extra room in our apt, and we will be leaving shortly after Christmas to go home for a week. A real tree is just too much to deal with until we have a house and/or kids. I would like to have a nice artificial one, though.

Real or fake? Fake. It is a 4ft fiber optic tree. You would be surprised how many ornaments we can fit on there.

Your ornaments; where did you get most of them? Most of them are either homemade or give to me by former students. The rest I have bought at Garden Ridge or some other store.

Your favorite ornament is __________(pic if you have one) A white glittery ceramic dove ornament one of my former students bought for me that says "peace" on it. Just love it.

Something funny to share with the board: nothing
  • Do you plan to get a Christmas tree? Got one
Real or fake? fake...real ones are messy IMO and I break out in hives when I touch them...
Your ornaments; where did you get most of them? Wal-Mart. There are a few "special" ones that are mine/DD's, but it's mostly balls.
Your favorite ornament is my little Irish step-dancer. I'm too lazy to take a pic and upload it at the moment, though.
Something funny to share with the board: My son looks at the tree and yells, "Ball!" as if he wants to play with the ornaments. I did let him hold one, just to see what it was, and fortunately he didn't try to throw it...
