July 2012 Weddings

I won a free engagement session too!

I went to a bridal faire this past weekend and they just told me I won engagement photos with a local photographer!  Never won anything like this!

Now I already paid a deposit on a photographer 90 miles away.  The package we chose comes with bridals and engagements, but can be customized.  I still want to do engagements with her since we kind of need to test her out before the wedding.  I was having second thoughts about bridals since I think they are totally splurgy.

However, with the local/new photographer, it'd be nice to get shots with our dog and of our beautiful valley.  The logistics of bringing out dog to the further away photographer were challenging (the entire canyon where she does her outdoor shots doesn't allow dogs)

Would you:

(1) Would you do two engagement sessions (the local/new lady I can bring my dog I'm assuming)?

(2) Or remove bridals from the current package (save $250) and see if new lady can do bridals (yes I'd still include my dog!)?

Of course I have to get this all approved.  I don't want to turn down free stuff!

Re: I won a free engagement session too!

  • I would absolutely do both! DO NOT TURN ANYTHING DOWN THAT'S ABSOLUTELY FREE! However, will you have to pay for the prints for the local photog?

Both photos with hi res DVD of edited images with printing rights.  Prints aren't usually included although our current package includes two wall prints and an album.

Haven't received all the details on the prize yet!
  • as long as it's totally free, i say do it! however, with all of the free engagement sessions i keep hearing about, i am skeptical as to whether you actually get prints and/or a disc of images to go along with it...if i were a photog, i would take as many pictures as possible for free if it meant i could turn around and sell all the pictures to my "free" clients....
  • Personally I don't think I'd do two e session, but that's just me. The only reason I'd want an extra session would be to include the dog! If you could incorporate the dog into another type of session, like bridals, I'd definitely do that. And then you can remove it from your current photo package and/or maybe finagle that into some prints?

Very exciting to win things! I am jealous.

  • I'll email her now since I already have her info back when I did my original photographer research.
  • She replied!  She said bringing the dog is fine and swapping for bridals is fine too.

The prize includes the session itself, along with a free 8x10 print. You don't have to purchase anything else if you don't want to, but if you do, here's the pricing for the CD:

-$100 for 20 medium resolution images (printable up to 8x10)
-$200 for all medium res. images (usually there are around 40-60 images)
-to upgrade either set to full resolution (printable at any size), it's $100 extra

So at a minimum we'll get a very nice family photo including our Gina.
  • YAYYY!!!! Doggie photos are a big plus in my book. :)

  • Our current photo package includes an album, so if I do bridals with the new lady then my bridals won't be in that book.  Just a thought.  I could do my own Shutterfly or Mixbook though.

Overall, even with buying new girl's CD with 20 edits, I would save $150 off my original plan plus save 4 hours of driving (to and from bridal session shoot).  $, time and gas.

Or just keep my orginal plan, and use new lady to get a nice free photo and that's it.

I'll have to run it by FI and get his input!
