Involving Nieces

My fiancee has four nieces, age 8-14, and his mother would really like us to involve them in the ceremony/reception.  Does anyone have an idea how we can do this without looking like we're favoring one over another?  My first thought is to give them all the same task, but I have no clue what it might be.  Thanks!

You could have all of the nieces hand out programs to the guests as they arrive.

If his mother wants it, then you don't necessarily have to do it (unless it'll be easier in the long-run to just let her have her way on this one to keep family peace). What do you and FI want? Also, they're old enough that once you decide on potential roles for them, you can ask them if they'd like to do these things - ask them not in front of your FMIL, so that they can be honest. They might rather just be guests than have a job.

I'd rather just be a guest than have to hand out programs.  I've done that.  It's boring.

If you're having a religious ceremony, maybe they could carry the gifts or something like that?  But you don't have to include them just because their mom wants it.

Make a point of dancing with them at the reception.  Perhaps instead of a head table, you could just sit with the nieces.  Lyndausvi did that (she and her H sat at the kids' table), and they really liked it.

Don't give them a pity job.  If you don't want them as bridesmaids or flower girls, then just let them enjoy the party, and make it a point to do something special with them rather than making them do something for you.
