Re: WPBP of the day

  • Would you ever let your (future) daughter compete in beauty pageants? Maybe.

Why or why not? I remember getting an invitation to be in some money-sucking pageant in middle school and secretly wanting to do it. I think if I'd told my parents and they'd let me, I would have realized I hated it and moved on. So in a situation like that, sure, it seems pretty harmless, but I'm not letting my 6 year old fake tan and wear high heels!

What's your favorite type of soup? Clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl. And now I want that, and I am thousands of miles from San Francisco. Eff.

Honest opinion on Lady Gaga: The "fashion" usually feels like she's trying WAY too hard, but her music's great!
  • Would you ever let your (future) daughter compete in beauty pageants? No.
Why or why not? Aside from the self-esteem issues I'm sure will result from her participation, her parents would be completely inept at helping her win.
What's your favorite type of soup? Baked potato.
Honest opinion on Lady Gaga: Freak show but I love her music.

"I think bablingbrooke is the 13 yr old marring her cousin at the town hall. Lets all give her a big hand. And hope her inbred children can live normal lives." -tabs.

A word of warning from your friends at Cracked.com: Remember that text is going to be how you make your first impression over the internet; if every third word you type is misspelled, people will automatically assume that you're a moron.
  • Would you ever let your (future) daughter compete in beauty pageants? Not unless she chooses to compete herself, and not until she is at least 16.

Why or why not? Because I want my kids to actually have a childhood, and while I don't mind them competing for sports or things like that, I would hesitate to consent to beauty pageants because of the negative self-esteem and self-image issues that could result from competition.

What's your favorite type of soup? Chicken broth with pastina stars.

Honest opinion on Lady Gaga: I like some of her music, but I think that she tries too hard to create an outrageous image.

  • I've got a snow day today and am a little bored.

Would you ever let your (future) daughter compete in beauty pageants? Sigh.  Maybe once but only under these stipulations: she asks me, it's just for fun, she's very young, and we never do it again.

Why or why not? The idea of tanning my child, buying her gowns and fake teeth, and teaching her that beauty is all that matters upsets me, obviously.  I do think kids should get to experience a lot of different things.  And, if she asks and wants to do it once, I don't see the harm.  I don't think beauty pagents are all evil, but I don't think they provide a great deal of good, either.

What's your favorite type of soup? Anything with a creamy base.  In high school, we had a cooking class and we made potato chowder.  We made it wrong: it was so thick our spoons stood up and far too peppery.  But, seriously, I loved it.  Wrong and all.

Honest opinion on Lady Gaga:  Yes... umm... who is she?

If SHE really wanted to, but no flippers or fake hair or fake tan or even makeup.. not on a kid of mine!
    Why or why not?
Its all too fake and the kids are made to think that they deserve praise for the way they look, when they had nothing to do with that.

What's your favorite type of soup?
French Onion, with lots of cheese and crusty bread

    Honest opinion on Lady Gaga:
I couldn't care less. I don't think she can sing or write, so Im not really sure why she is famous. She sure does like to make herself ugly.

  • Would you ever let your (future) daughter compete in beauty pageants? Not ever, ever, ever.

Why or why not?  Because children should be children.  A tarted up, fake tanned, flipper wearing, hairpiece flaunting, made-up 3 year old is NOT a short 18 year old.  She's 3, THREE, years old.  What ever happened to childhood?  One of my favorite quotes "Childhood should be a journey, not a race."

And I see no value at all to racing a toddler, preschooler, or grade schooler to adulthood by putting them in these "pageants" which are really nothing more than parents willing to pay ridiculous amounts of money for their kid to take home a trophy and cheesy "crown".

What's your favorite type of soup?  Corn chowder

Honest opinion on Lady Gaga:  Love the music.  Intrigued by the fashion.

Yay!  They closed everything last night in the city.  But, it's just raining here now so I'm feeling guilty.  But, they say more snow is on the way this afternoon.

    Not a chance.

    Why or why not?
I think they are degrading to women, among other things.  They teach girls to value the wrong things about themselves.  I think that the parents putting their small children out their to compete are just sick.
What's your favorite type of soup?
    Talk Soup :)

    Honest opinion on Lady Gaga:
I like her.  Some of her songs get stuck in my head and annoy me, but just dance is still one of my favorite cardio songs.  I love seeing female performers come out that don't look like they could have won a beauty pageant.  I like that she has personality and isn't afraid to be herself, even if some people don't like it.  I find it hilarious that people are so threatened by a strong woman that they call her a hermaphrodite.

    NO!

Why or why not? They're creeptastic, IMHO. Little girls wearing makeup and prancing about like adult women freak me out.

What's your favorite type of soup?  Lobster bisque!

Honest opinion on Lady Gaga:  She's a great entertainer and seems like a very sweet person from the interviews I have seen of her - she loves her fans and just wants them to feel good about expressing themselves.

I have a "mash up" ala glee of Just Dance and Disturbia.  It's my favorite running song ever.
