Cake Searching

Does anyone have any suggestions on a reasonably priced baker? I don't want a huge elaborate cake so we will be doing a dessert table with a whole mix of things, most of which will be homemade but the one thing I don't want to do is my own wedding cake. Nothing big, just a small 2 tier cake and another small Groom's cake but everything I come across is so expensive and the delivery fees are the real killer! Any suggestions, or tips on what to do or where to go?
Thanks in advance!!

Re: Cake Searching

  • I'm using Seventh Heaven Cakes. The total for a 4 tier cake + grooms cake + delivery was around $500.
  • I'm also using Seventh Heaven for our bridal cake, BUT for what you're looking for, I would recommend Lucy's cake shop. If you go with one of the basic flavors, the prices are very reasonable and the cakes taste amazing too. We get every special occasion cake from them and I'm planning on ordering my groom's cake through them.

  • I'm using Cakes+More for the same purpose.  Getting 2-3 small cakes to fill in a dessert table, one which will be to cut.  She was able to replicate some fondant style designs using regular frosting (about half price).  Large variety of flavor options available in the basic option price range.
  • Great! Thanks for the leads! I will def check them out!

  • I would recommend Betty Jane's Bakeshopped located on South Alamo in South Town.  She was very flexible, great per slice prices and small delivery fee if any.  The cake was delicious too.  :)

  • I'm sorry I totally had the name wrong.  The name is Frosted Delights by Joyce.  We just ordered our small cake from there after sampling them at the bridal extravaganza.

  • Sweet Traditions is great too, lots of unique types of cake and reasonable prices and no delivery charge.  Also she is a part of a full service wedding coordinating service and she can do floral too so you don't need to find your own florist if you want live flowers decorating your cake.  This is something I was told I needed to do on my own elsewhere.  Plus Lynda is just really great to work with and truly takes the time to get to know you and your groom so she can make the perfect cake for you.

    Happy sampling :)

  • Whoever you choose, do not use Betty Jane's Bakeshoppe on Blanco Rd. My wedding cake tasting nothing like the samples we had at our tasting and they totally forgot our cake topper I searched for 3 Mos to get. When I went to ask them what happen that Monday after my wedding Amanda gave me a very generic and insincere apology with a sarcastic smirk on her face. She cut me a check for $36 for my topper and then stood there as if I was bothering her with my complaint and concerns. No one bothered to bring my topper on my wedding day, nor let me, my fiance, nor the venue know what was going on. She told me her cell number was on my contract and I should've called her. Had I known that I would have stuffed my contract in my wedding dress. Her mother Peggy and her are very unprofessional and did not care one bit that I was unhappy with the situation that took place on one of the MOST IMPORTANT DAYS OF MY LIFE! The cake was not worth the $720 I spent at all!
  • Crazy idea. What about HEB? Does anyone else here have experience with them?
