Gift/red envelope question

My mom said that because the invitation was issued in their names (i.e. "Parents of the bride / Parents of the groom request the honour of your presence", and also the standard Chinese way), people will actually give THEM the red envelope gifts... but of course, they'll pass on the gifts to us. Is this true?? Sounds crazy to me.

Just as a lot of other PPs have said, I don't think it necessarily has to do with who's name is on the invitation as the "inviter".  Some of your guests, particularly your or his parents' friends will likely give the card/money to them.  Some will just slip it into the card box on the table.  Parents *should* pass it on the bride and groom...although I've heard of parents who kept it for themselves.  Hopefully that's not the case  for you!

I'm confused. I thought Red Envelopes are to be delivered to the card box. Am I to assume at weddings, there are fathers with red envelopes stuffed in their pockets?
