While I am half chinese we never got super into new years! Sure we say Happy New Year in chinese, but we wouldn't eat yummy food. (We did get red envelopes though) It wasn't until my wedding that one of my super chinese friends told me that I would no longer receive them. She is older than me and unmarried and told me that I could now give them to her because she is still considered a child in chinese culture.
