Gift from work vendor

I received a gift last night at home from a work related vendor. Should I send a thank you via email or send a card to his work address? He's a salesman and I'm not sure how often he's actually in his office & probably works out of a home office.

Email seems more practical. Especially since he is a man and won't really care that he didn't get a beautiful piece of stationery in the mail.
