NWR: Mezuzot

Ok....question. I'm sure I could find this out for myself, but I'm too lazy to do the search....Do you have to put a mezuzah on every door frame, just frames with actual doors, or frames that COULD have a door, but you took it down? For example, the entrance to our dining room is framed, but there's no door and never been one (and it's a large opening). However, we took a door down off the kitchen, so does that one get a mezuzah? I know to skip the bathroom.....My biggest problem is that I don't have enough mezuzot, so I'm trying to decide what I need to get. Anyone have a certain kind they recommend for outdoors....I was thinking something stone or something really solid like that.TIA!

I believe it's any doorway except those leading to the restroom and closets.

OMG! I have to go count.....that's at least 10 in the main house, 1 for the front door, and I guess 3 for the basement? I will save the basement for if we have leftovers...I know we don't have that many now.....oy......

If you're Orthodox, you put one on every door frame other than those to restrooms and closets.  More Reform Jews will typically have one only on doors leading to the outside.

I'm conservative....I think my parents only had them on doors to bedrooms and offices, and the front door. I'll have to email my dad and ask.....I'm kinda hoping someone will give us one for the baby's room, so I'm holding off on that for a while. Most of the ones we have are from my parents old house. They had a lot leftover when they downsized to a condo from a 6 bedroom house!
