Jewish Weddings

Jewish Brides

It's been almost 4 years since my own wedding but I have just created The Wedding Yentas, A guide for the Jewish Bride along with my friend Alison (who will be celebrating her 2 year anniversary in a few weeks). When planning my own wedding there were very few resources online, and while there are quite a few more they seem to be very inactive and boring. I wanted to create a site where Jewish brides could get lots of information, ideas, find great vendors etc. We are just in our second week and I would love to get some feedback from Jewish brides out there. Is there anything in particular you would like to see? Questions answered? What do you think of the site so far?We want to be a resource to all Jewish brides out there. We aren't selling anything on our site, just giving out lots of great information..oh and we have contests too, so you can win fun things for your weddings!! :) http://www.theweddingyentas.com~Nicky

Oh and if any of you also post on The Nest, I post there too once in a while! Maybe I will see you around there :)

You are right, there are sources out there but they are a bit scattered and having one place to find things would be helpful.  I'll definitely check it out, though much of my planning is either already done or being dictated (not always in sync) by my rabbi....

Hi! I just checked out the site and it's great and Princeton is adorable! I have most of my plans set; but as far as some commentary. I like the fact that you showed pictures of real couples getting married under the chuppah. What has been a little more difficult to find is marriages that occur in the shul. I read that Ashkenazis prefer outdoor chuppah whereas Sephardic prefer indoors (anyone is free to correct me if I am wrong).

It was very important to me to honor my roots and get married in a Jewish setting (October 10th, 2010). We decided to use the caterer at the temple because we felt it fit in with the traditional theme I wanted. I cannot say it is any cheaper in all honesty; but I think that our friends will have a great time witnessing (many for the first time) a Jewish wedding. FI is Jewish; but he is not overly religious. We could not marry in an Orthodox shul because he was raised Liberal; so we settled on a Conservative one. It has been difficult to find rituals and customs and most wedding sites make it sound like we are so ethically different... all brides want a beautiful wedding day. We all have varied styles in dress, taste and so forth. i will say that I got a few books to read to make sure I incorporated both Ashkenazic and Sephardic traditions (I am both and Fi is Sepharad).

All this blabbing to say thanks for setting up the site! I have felt alienated at times because people tend to add their "biblical" two cents a little too often.

I just finished looking at the website.  I am really impressed.  I cannot wait to really explore everything on the site.  I am still in the beginning planning stages and I have had a lot of trouble finding everything I need, so I'm sure it is really going help me find all the things I need. Great job!
