Marriage Cert.

Is a Ketubah the same as a marriage certificate in the sense that it is a legal document with the government? Or is one not legally married when they sign one and it is only for religious reasons?

    To answer your question, you need a ketubah for a JEWISH wedding, but you also need a marriage certificate to make your marriage legal in the eyes of the USA government.  Do you understand?

    Kektubahs only have legal bearing if you live in Israel.  Otherwise, it's a strictly a religious doc.

    Well, not quite - if you are Orthodox, it does have a bearing especially to prove a marraige and if a get will need to be obtained later for a divorce (let's hope not).
