Conversion

Has anyone else on here converted to Judaism?  I just found out my date for the bet din and mikvah are in a week and I'm really nervous.  The bet din lasts 30 minutes, and the questions shouldn't be difficult, it's more like an interview than a test.  I'm still nervous though.  My fiance's mother and possibly her sister and niece are going to be there with me after the interview.  She's planning on having cake or ice cream for me at kiddish and I'll probably have my first aliyah next Saturday as well.

I converted to Judaism many years ago.  The only big issue I remember was that I was about 5 months pregnant at the time of my conversion.  One has to get entirely under the water of the mikvah, and with that "inner tube" around my waist, I wasn't at all sure I was going to manage.

In any event, mazel tov on your conversion!
  • Mazel Tov on your conversion!

  • Mazel Tov! I finished my conversion about 2 months ago. I was supposed to have my mikvah and beit din this week but they were canelled due to the unusually cold weather.

  • Mazel tov!

I converted earlier this year and understand the nervousness, even though you know there is no need. I found the experience very meaningful. Enjoy it!
  • Mazel Tov! My FI converted in August and I (plus his parents, my grandparents and his best friend) were present at the bet dien. They asked me questions too. His questions were fairly easy - why did you decide to convert? How have you prepared yourself for your conversion? How do you celebrate the holidays? It was actually very fun and the rabbis made us very comfortable! Are you going to bring a change of clothes with you? FI changed his clothes completely after his mikvah; it helped him really feel like a new person.

I hope it went well! (I'm a little behind!) I'm still taking my classes so I have a few months before I go through this.. I'm already nervous, so I can imagine how you felt!

  • Hey everyone.  My bet din and mikvah were today and I am officially a Jew!  I was so nervous that I didn't eat anything before going (and it was at 1pm).  I sat and talked to the three Rabbis for about 30 minutes and then prepared myself for the mikvah.  At that point, the scary part is over, and it's just a matter of making sure all my hair goes under the water each time I dunk.  My fiance's mother and aunt came with me and were in the hall with the Rabbis at this point.  I was alone for the bet din.  After the two blessing they sang "Siman Tov & Mazel Tov" which nearly made me cry.  We then shared grape juice and cookies.  It was a great experience.
