Jewish Weddings

Reading

I have a very good friend that I ended up  not asking to be a bridesmaid, but really want to be involved in the wedding somehow.  I was thinking of asking her to do a reading during the ceremony.  Are there any parts of Jewish weddings that are typical for someone to read?  Or any good poems or stories about love I could ask her to do?  It's a traditional Jewish wedding, but the friend is not Jewish, so I wouldn't want it to be too religious.

You could have her read translations (either traditional or more creative) of the sheva berachot.  Those are blessings, though, so I don't know if they are too religious for what you're looking for, but you could probably find a more liberal translation that could work.

This is a nice reading, I think: http://www.alisonandjoewedding.com/The%20Chuppah.html

Also, perhaps she could read a paragraph or so from your ketubah?

we asked some friends to read one of my favourite love poems.  it's not religious at all, but was very beautiful and meaningful to me.  they read it just before the ketubah was read.  it was a great transition to that part of the ceremony.
