Votive Candles on The Reception Tables?

For those of you who are already married and those of you who are further along in the wedding planning than I am:  is having votives as part of your centerpieces on the reception tables considered "goyish?"  I told my mother I was considering having 2 votives per table near the flower CPs since I'm having an early evening reception, and she said she thought that was "goyish".  That was news to me!

    HAHA... I've never thought of candles as not-Jewish.

    I am using 6 to 8 votives per table that will surround our centerpieces. We are having long flower arrangements which will probably have fewer and taller once which will probably have a few more.

    Me neither, october010; I think she's just not familiar with current decorating trends for wedding receptions.  I'm thinking of using 2-3 votives per table surrounding the floral centerpieces.  I'm waiting for my mother to call me back with the phone number of the social hall manager of the synagogue so I can ask him if real votives are allowed or not.

    LOL. No, I wouldn't think of candles on a table as goyish. Just make sure you buy the kind that's long burning -- typical votives can go out pretty quickly, which won't be pretty and will produce a burning smell when they go out.

    we had votives on our tables.  It think it adds nice lighting to the table and sets the mood.
