Are you doing first look or meeting your GROOM at the altar? I am meeting my groom at the altar. I'm very traditional and even though my photographer tried very hard to talk me into a first look, I was not budging.

What's your first dance and why? Only You by Joshua Radin. We have always just loved the song and we wanted something short (it's only 2 min). Our friend Mike is going to be playing it acoustic on his guitar and singing it. He's amazing (:

Are you incorporating any traditional/cultural dances? e.g. tarantella, hora, greek dancing (money danceTongue OutWe are doing the tarantella and I am so excited for it! I have a huge Italian family and it is always done at our weddings.

Are you doing bouquet toss/garter toss?  If not, why? Yes, we are doing both. My friends and family have always done it and everyone is looking forward to it. I am the first to get married so I have a lot of single friends.

Are you thinking of doing the anniversary dance?  Have you thought of the song yet?  If so, what are you going to give the winning couple? We are going to do it but we haven't decided on details yet.

Who's walking you down the aisle?  my dad & stepdad

Are you doing first look or meeting your GROOM at the altar?  meeting him at the alter! NOOO to the first look!!

What's your first dance and why?   Little Moments by Brad Paisley, because this is how FI feels about me and I have practically done everything in the song =)

Are you incorporating any traditional/cultural dances? e.g. tarantella, hora, greek dancing (money danceTongue OutNopers.  The only other dance we're having besides the first dance is the a sibling dance.  I want a dance with my brother & FI wants a dance with his sister.  Then we're going to have the rest of the siblings come out to dance with us if they would like to! =)

Are you doing bouquet toss/garter toss?  If not, why?  because we do not have very many single friends coming (like 2 single friends...seriously...)

Are you thinking of doing the anniversary dance?  Have you thought of the song yet?  If so, what are you going to give the winning couple?  Thought about it, but decided to do the sibling dance.

Any other traditons you are doing??  I absolutely love hearing about traditions that families/cultures have.  no extra traditions! but i love to hear about them too!

Who's walking you down the aisle? Well since it looks like mom is coming again, mom and dad

Are you doing first look or meeting your GROOM at the altar? At the altar. I'm really excited about it actually!

What's your first dance and why? I'm pretty sure we'll be dancing to Yo No Soy Tu Prisionero by Los Autenticos Decadents. It's not your traditional first dance song AT ALL!! In fact it's rather upbeat and it's a dancing style that is never done for something like a first dance. However, when I met FI on my month long vacation in Ecuador, on my LAST day we went to a wedding with some friends. Later that night while we were sitting at the table watching people dance, FI asked me if I knew the song that was being played. I said no and he told me to listen to the lyrics. I did and I teared up. It was our last night together til who knew when and it was a very special moment for us. Ever since then it's been our little secret song lol :)

Are you incorporating any traditional/cultural dances? e.g. tarantella, hora, greek dancing (money danceTongue Out) No cultural or traditional dances for us

Are you doing bouquet toss/garter toss?  If not, why? I'd like to because it's something fun and expected in our circle, but we're so few people! We hardly have any single guests and I don't want to embarass them by making them the only 5 people standing in the middle of the dancefloor.

Though I've seen this hilarious looking version of the garter toss where the bride has to stand on a chair, and the groom gets "crowd surfed" (or rather tossed) over to where the bride is standing and he has to pull off the garter (something tells me this version is with his teeth hahaha, but no worries, the garter is only like at her ankle) while still being held up in the air. Sounds crazy but it looked like tons of fun. Here's a pic of a wedding I went to that did this lol

Are you thinking of doing the anniversary dance?  Have you thought of the song yet?  If so, what are you going to give the winning couple? Nah, it's kind of like our single group. There aren't many married couples that haven't gotten divorced either lol

Any other traditons you are doing??  I absolutely love hearing about traditions that families/cultures have. Hmm, I can't think of much. We don't have many traditions we're doing. But our wedding is a full day event.  The ceremony starts at 11:30 and we have the venue til 9 pm. Actually kind of early for us. We're hoping the party goes on elsewhere afterwards! :)
  • Who's walking you down the aisle? My father and my son

Are you doing first look or meeting your GROOM at the altar? Meeting my groom at the altar.

What's your first dance and why? Mario Love Song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDBpQVhCMb8
I let FI pick the song. :)

Are you incorporating any traditional/cultural dances? No, I wanted to do something Mexican heritage but FI said NO. He claims he isnt mexican enough for it to mean anything lol

Are you doing bouquet toss/garter toss?  Yes, I think its funny to see who really wants it and who doesnt want it at all! We have lots of single friends.

Are you thinking of doing the anniversary dance?  Have you thought of the song yet?  If so, what are you going to give the winning couple? Never even heard of this!! I will be googling it!

Any other traditons you are doing??  Grandma is insisting on something old something new something borrowed something blue...
    pregnancy calendar
  • Who's walking you down the aisle?
My mom in lieu of my father who passed away.

Are you doing first look or meeting your GROOM at the altar?
I'm with the rest of y'all. NO FIRST LOOK! I'm also not allowed to talk to him on the wedding day, which means starting at midnight on July 14th, I'm not even allowed to text him! I have a feeling this is going to be strictly enforced by my mother.

What's your first dance and why?
No clue. We keep going back and forth on it.

Are you incorporating any traditional/cultural dances? e.g. tarantella, hora, greek dancing (money danceTongue Out)
I don't think so. Somehow, even with my non-Jewish friends, everyone ends up doing the hora at weddings in my group of friends. I have no idea why. I really hope they don't for ours! I'd love to do the Tarantella, but many of our friends don't know it.

Are you doing bouquet toss/garter toss?  If not, why?
We're doing a "staged" bouquet toss, but we're not doing an actual bouquet toss or garter toss. Fiance vetoed them.

Here's a picture of the stairwell at the estate house. I'll throw the bouquet from the top of the stairs to my bridesmaids below in a staged photo-op that my photographer will take pictures of, but we're not going to halt the music or anything for it:

Are you thinking of doing the anniversary dance?  Have you thought of the song yet?  If so, what are you going to give the winning couple?
No. We're not doing this. I'd rather not break up the music.

Any other traditons you are doing??  I absolutely love hearing about traditions that families/cultures have.
Not really "traditions" but we're incorporating some Italian features because we're both part-Italian and we got engaged in Italy: Italian string lights outside, Pelligrino water, Italian sodas, our signature drink is a Bellini Martini, and we're having cannolis on the dessert table. I may be forgetting some stuff, but that's what I can think of right now.

We're also doing a full Nuptial Mass, which is going to be SUPER LONG for our non-Catholic friends, but is important to us.

  • Who's walking you down the aisle?
Just my dad or my mom and my dad.  I'm still undecided.

Are you doing first look or meeting your GROOM at the altar?
Doing first look.  I don't want to waste any time and not a moment of my cocktail hour (my favorite part of a wedding!).

What's your first dance and why?
No idea yet!  We're deciding whether it should be in Italian (our principle language together) or English. or a song with both languages.

Are you incorporating any traditional/cultural dances? e.g. tarantella, hora, greek dancing (money danceTongue Out)

The DJ will play a couple of Honduran songs but they are just for fun.  There is a particular dance move that goes with them but you don't need to do them.  I'd love to do the tarantella but FI is from northern italy.

Are you doing bouquet toss/garter toss?  If not, why?
95% certain that I'll do the bouquet toss and 75% certain that we won't do garter toss.   If we do it will not have catcher place it on the other catcher.  I had to do this once and was mortified!

Are you thinking of doing the anniversary dance?  Have you thought of the song yet?  If so, what are you going to give the winning couple?
The more I think of it, the happier I get!  And we'll definitely get passed 40 years so it should be cute.  I think I'm going to play my parents' song and give the longest married couple a bottle of wine or a small basket of italian stuff (the wedding is all about me want to try to include FI in there somewhere!)

Any other traditons you are doing??  I absolutely love hearing about traditions that families/cultures have.

Not really a tradition but I am going to use the toasting glasses my parents used at their wedding for our toasts.  Hopefully, they will bring me 37 years of wedded bliss!

And I'm attaching the 5 traditional sugared almonds to our favor which are going to be cappuccino flavored to match our coffee mug.

  • Who's walking you down the aisle? My mom and dad

Are you doing first look or meeting your GROOM at the altar?
At the alter. My mom tried to get me to do first look but I really don't want to see him before the ceremony. Luckily my FMIL was on my side and we quickly vetoed that!

What's your first dance and why? Not sure yet. I really need to get on that lol.

Are you incorporating any traditional/cultural dances? e.g. tarantella, hora, greek dancing (money danceTongue OutThe Hora! We'll be going up in chairs and everything. Hopefully they don't drop me this time (sister Bat Mitzvah was fun lol). My family does this a lot, we actually know already who will be lifting and they know what part of the chair to hold. Hopefully FI's family isn't to confused.

Are you doing bouquet toss/garter toss?  If not, why? Yes to bouquet not to garter. I like the tradition but something about the garter toss just bothers me.

Are you thinking of doing the anniversary dance?  Have you thought of the song yet?  If so, what are you going to give the winning couple? Not doing this because all of the older people have passed away. There just wouldn't be enough long lasting couple. I wish we could though because I love the idea.

Any other traditons you are doing??  I absolutely love hearing about traditions that families/cultures have. Lots of Jewish stuff. Both FI and I will walk down the aisle with our parents. We will be having a Jewish style ceremony (no Rabbi so its not officially Jewish but we're doing all the major prayers). I'm still debating a Ketubah (Jewish marriage contract). FI will step on a glass at the end of the ceremony (its actually a light bulb, to many grooms cut their feet on real glasses). Theres probably more I can't think of. I asked FMIL if she wanted to include any traditions but she couldn't think of any.

Nancy, I thought I had things straight but I realize I'm completely lost hahaha! You don't have to answer any of my questions if they make you uncomfortable. Are both of you Italian? From your post I understood that you and FI speak mostly Italian to each other.. right? Will you two continue to live in Italy after the wedding (or September wedding)? Are the Honduran songs just for fun or are one of you Honduran? Finally are you talking about puntaa?? ;-) I haven't danced that in ages and I miss it! It's not a popular genre around here at all.. actually I was surprised to find out most people don't even know what it is! If you're not talking about puntaa then completely ignore me haha ;-P

ETA: Sorry for the extra "a".. apparently TK thinks pvnta is profanity. Obviously they've done their research haha

Are you doing bouquet toss/garter toss? If not, why? definitely not the bouquet toss.  Possibly the garter, only because no one knows I have 2 dresses and we're going to do it as kind of a surprise.  We plan on having FI pretend like he just can't find the garter under all my layers of tulle.  He'll have my stand up and then just pull my skirt down.  We'll have the skirt unzipped of course before hand.

My parents are Honduran and I was born in NY.  I came to Italy 5 years ago and I met FI 4 years ago.  We mostly speak to each other in italian (his englis is not very good, but he's improving).  For the time being, we'll continue to live in Italy but I'd love to go back to NY one day.

And yes, I'm talking about Puntaaa!  No honduran wedding would be complete without it!

Any other traditons you are doing??  I absolutely love hearing about traditions that families/cultures have. Most of our traditions will be in the ceremony! We're having some Jewish traditions (FI stepping on the glass, a Hebrew blessing) and a Catholic tradition (the unity candle).  I was thinking of maybe using the Catholic vows, but haven't decided that yet :)

Gotcha. So you're trilingual! That's so cool! :) I'm slightly jealous of your getting to dance to lots of puntaa at your wedding haha. Ahh that's gotta be so fun! And I totally know what you mean about the traditions! People tend to ask sometimes about any special traditional stuff and I'm like "uhhhhhh... don't really have any" lol. Apparently Mexicans get all the fun in that area of things.

Who's walking you down the aisle?
My Brother - my parents are both deceased

Are you doing first look or meeting your GROOM at the altar?
We are doing a first look at the hotel before we leave for the wedding venue

What's your first dance and why? God Bless The Broken Road by Rascal Flats b/c both of our roads took alot of twists and turns before we found each other

Are you incorporating any traditional/cultural dances? e.g. tarantella, hora, greek dancing (money danceTongue Out) No

Are you doing bouquet toss/garter toss?  If not, why? Yes

Are you thinking of doing the anniversary dance?  Have you thought of the song yet?  If so, what are you going to give the winning couple?
I already feel rushed for our reception so just want to leave plenty of time to dance

    My father

Are you doing first look or meeting your GROOM at the altar?

First look- we have a carriage ride after the ceremony to the reception site so I want to ensure we have plenty of time to enjoy it!

What's your first dance and why?
Ahhh, we don't know yet!!  I think right now we're leaning to anything my Ray LaMontagne (Ray was an opener at the first concert we went to together and we've loved him ever since) or "500 Miles" by the Proclaimers (this is just such a fun song and give me goosebumps every time I hear it because it makes me think of FI)

Are you incorporating any traditional/cultural dances? e.g. tarantella, hora, greek dancing (money danceTongue Out
My sorority has a song we always dance to but other than that I don't believe we'll be doing any others
I've always wanted to do the hora, how fun!
Are you doing bouquet toss/garter toss?  If not, why?
Boquet toss, absolutely!   See below for garter toss.

Are you thinking of doing the anniversary dance?  Have you thought of the song yet?  If so, what are you going to give the winning couple?
We are doing the anniversary dance to "remember when" and I really liked the idea of champagne for the winning couple.

Any other traditons you are doing??  I absolutely love hearing about traditions that families/cultures have.

So I know this one is weird, please don't judge.  I'm from a town of about 1200 people.  At every single town wedding (yes, they put the wedding dance in the paper) they auction off the garter (it's usually purchased by uncles of the bride but can vary)  It's a ton of fun and yes for those not from my hometown totally weird.  The first time I went to an out of town wedding I was confused when we left because they hadn't done the auction.  (It's THAT normal where I'm from ha!)

Are you doing first look or meeting your GROOM at the altar?  I dont know yet.  Probably meeting at the isle.

What's your first dance and why?  I wont give up by jason mraz...FI and I have been thru a lot over the last 9 years and its taking us a lot to figure things out so its perfect for us.

Are you incorporating any traditional/cultural dances? e.g. tarantella, hora, greek dancing (money danceTongue OutNo :(

Any other traditons you are doing??  I absolutely love hearing about traditions that families/cultures have.  Nope, our ceremony is going to be super short & sweet, nothing major.  At the reception we will be doing our first dance and then a father daughter/mother son dance.  I am not even that excited about dancing with my dad, I just want it so I can get some amazing pics of FI dancing with our girls :)

Meeting him at the altar.  I left this up to him and this is what he picked. Bride2be I am with  you I am pretty sure he wont even let us speak the entire day up until the wedding!  Not sure if I could stand not even texting!

What's your first dance and why? Frank Sinatra "The Way you look tonight"- We wanted something older and not long and this is what we agreed on

Are you incorporating any traditional/cultural dances? e.g. tarantella, hora, greek dancing (money danceTongue OutNope

Are you doing bouquet toss/garter toss?  If not, why? Nope- FI totally vetoed but that is ok because we really dont have very many single people coming to the wedding

Are you thinking of doing the anniversary dance?  Have you thought of the song yet?  If so, what are you going to give the winning couple? Yes I think we may do this.  If so I want to do it to Dave matthews Band "Steady As We Go" and I would just give the winning couple the extra bouquet

Any other traditons you are doing??  I absolutely love hearing about traditions that families/cultures have. FI is part German so he wants to sing
Schnitzelbank which is a German drinking song.

[QUOTE].

How interesting!  Just goes to show that things differ from place to place and who are we to pass judgement or criticize.  AND I LOVE 500 miles!

I also love your FI's choice of song, Melissa.  How cute!  If there was a love song for gears of war I'm sure mine would have chosen that!.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Let's talk wedding day!!! : How does your dress work?  Is your skirt attached to your dress?  Very cute!

I have the short dress on and then there's a long skirt that comes over it and I just button it at my waist but you can't tell it's 2 separate pieces.

  • Beachlover: It won't let me qoute but I just wanted to say, don't be scared about the chairs. I've been lifted twice (my Bat Mitzvah and my sisters) and its actually a lot of fun. They also lifted my parents who are not small people. My father is six one and almost 300 lbs. And both times he was lifted no problem. At my sister's Bat Mitzvah they almost dropped me, but basically they just had uneven heights so I was slipping off one side of the chair. I just held on and was fine. They'll call all the men to the floor to help lift. A lot of the time there are actually too many! Its definitley a little scary the first time but its so much fun!

  • Who's walking you down the aisle? My mom & Dad

Are you doing first look or meeting your GROOM at the altar? I am traditional and seeing him for the first time when I walk down the aisle.

What's your first dance and why? It is a toss up between Just a Kiss by Lady Antebellum or Runner Runner's I can't Wait. Both of the songs give me the goosebumps and make me think about how much we really both love each other and how many obstacles we had to overcome.

Are you incorporating any traditional/cultural dances? e.g. tarantella, hora, greek dancing (money danceTongue Out) No. There will be Portuguese music playing so if our families want to dance they can.

Are you doing bouquet toss/garter toss? If not, why? No, I think it is just akward for people.

Are you thinking of doing the anniversary dance? Have you thought of the song yet? If so, what are you going to give the winning couple? I am not quite sure what this is....

Are you doing first look or meeting your GROOM at the altar? no first look - we are being really traditional and I love it! I am with bridetobe - no speaking, no texting, no seeing, no NOTHING from midnight on.

What's your first dance and why? We have been struggling to pick something. Fiance's first choice was Bloodstream. I have mentioned this before...we both love it, but its a LITTLE bit too creepy. Fiance and I are creepy people - but we don't want all our relatives judging us for picking a weird creepy song. Fiance's second choice was Falling Slowly. It's an absolutely stunning and beautiful song that brings me to tears every time I hear it - but, it's a little too depresing and sad. So we STILL don't have a song. Our two "songs" are Dreamgirl by DMB (doesn't really work for a first dance) and Constellations by jack Johnson (I think someone else is doing this???) but we aren't sure if that is "the one" for our first dance either. SIGH.

Are you incorporating any traditional/cultural dances? e.g. tarantella, hora, greek dancing (money danceTongue Out) we are going to play probably 4 or 5 Indian songs and do Indian dancing to them. I am really excited about it! Lots of people HATE the Cupid Shuffle but fiance and I love that one so I am sure we will do it, and maybe the Cha Cha Slide too :)

Are you doing bouquet toss/garter toss?  If not, why? yes to bouquet toss, undecided on garter toss. I am going to let fiance make that decision.

Are you thinking of doing the anniversary dance?  Have you thought of the song yet?  If so, what are you going to give the winning couple?no, we aren't doing this.

Any other traditons you are doing??  I absolutely love hearing about traditions that families/cultures have. I don't think so.....

Are you doing first look or meeting your GROOM at the altar?

    Meeting him at the altar

What's your first dance and why?

When God made you by Newsong and Natalie Grant. I heard it on the radio and knew it was the song. I gave FI a playlist on his ipod with 50 choices for our first dance without telling him which one I liked. He choose the same song.

Are you incorporating any traditional/cultural dances? e.g. tarantella, hora, greek dancing (money danceTongue Out)

Money dance - it's common in our circle.

Are you doing bouquet toss/garter toss?  If not, why?

There are very very few single people - like maybe 1 invited. It wouldn't make any sense.

Are you thinking of doing the anniversary dance?  Have you thought of the song yet?  If so, what are you going to give the winning couple?

Yes, the song is 1, 2, 3, 4 by the Plain White Tees. We are giving them the throwing bouquet and probably a bottle of wine. It probably is FI aunt and uncle - 54 years this year.

Any other traditons you are doing??  I absolutely love hearing about traditions that families/cultures have.

Not that I can think of.
