Look at the left hand side of the screen, under Community Links. Two down is a heading Private Messages -- click on that and it will tell you if you have any. (Good luck!)

Oh wow thank you tenofcups, Ive been trying to figure that out forever!

Does anyone know how to send a message to someone (sorry if this is a stupid question, I just can't seem to figure it out)!  Thanks

Yes Rachel- thats easy too. If you see the person's post within a thread, at the bottom of their actually message, to the left of the magnifying glass, is a Private Message tab in green, click on it and it opens a new window.
