February 2013 Weddings

Groomsmen Attire

Hi everyone-I don't post on here a lot, but I could use some opinions! I can't believe how close February is getting, and I am guessing I will be on here more frequently in the next 50 days!

Our wedding colors are navy and pink, and I am trying to decide what my fiance and his groomsmen should wear. I am not very good at visualizing these things, so if anyone can help that would be amazing!

At the tux rental shop, the lady helping us said that my fiance should wear an ivory vest and tie to match my dress. I was kind of set on somehow incorporating pink and navy striped ties in to their attire.

Here are my options-

1) Groomsmen in black tuxes, navy vest and tie; groom in black tux with ivory vest and tie
2) Groomsmen in black tuxes, navy vest and tie; groom in black tux with navy vest and pink and navy tie
3) Groomsmen in black tuxes, navy vest and pink and navy ties; groom in black tux with ivory vest and tie

This is the dress my bridesmaids are going to wear--

Any opinions would be great! Thank you! :)

    Hi there!

I'll be perfectly honest with you--I don't think there is ANY need to match your groomsmen with the bridesmaids or your wedding colors. 99% of the time (at least to me), this looks overly matchy-matchy and more like you're going to prom than a wedding.

My girls are also wearing long, satin midnight blue dresses and our guys are wearing black vest, tie, and tux with a white shirt. The only difference between my groom and his groomsmens are the pocketsquares--he has white, they have black. Very classy, elegant, and simple. But if you're super set with the idea of matching, I'd probably have to say Option #1. I don't think incorporating pink in there is necessary and your guys will undoubtedly appreciate that LOL!
  • Thanks for the advice! :)

  • My wedding colors are purple and red. My bridemaids are wearing purple dresses with red sashes. The groom and groom's men are all wearing black tuxes with purple vests and ties. My fiance didn't want to wear an ivory vest and tie. We are also thinking of doing different colored pocket squares for the groomsmen and my fiance.

I think any of the options would be fine. does your fiance have a preference at all?

  • That sounds very pretty, Frig. When we went to the tux shop we told them we wanted the groom and groomsmen in black tuxes with navy vests and ties, and then I had planned to get a different tie for my fiance, so we may end up going with that.

  • Happy New Year!

Agree that you don't "have" to match.  My fiance and groomens are actually all wearing black tuxeos, black vests, white shirt, and black ties.  My BM's are in a plum dress.  We wanted to have a very classic look so we didn't even bother trying to match the boys and girls.  The only difference right now is that my fiance opted for a nicer tux and we kept everyone else's more within budget (something I am sure no one will even notice lol).

I did have a friend do pink ties at her wedding, and the boys all looked great.  My only concern is that since the bridesmaids are not in pink at all, it could look off in pictures.  Also, navy may come off looking somewhat black in pictures so definately take that into account when pairing it with the tuxes.

    Love the BM dresses!!
  • My colors are also navy and pink (fuschia) and my girls are wearing midnight blue dresses.  The groomsmen will be wearing Navy suits with navy/fuschia striped ties while my FH will wear a light grey 3-piece suit with the same tie as his men.  The ringbearers will be wearing navy blue pant/vest combos with bowties that match the men.

  • Thanks everyone for your help :) We decided to have them match with navy vests and ties, and my fiance will be the same but will have a little bit of pink in his tie as well. They will all have a single pink rose for a boutionierre (spelling?).  My bridesmaids are going to have light pink pashminas with mixed pinks for their bouquets, so I think it will all come together!

Ameriprankster that will look amazing! We wanted to do navy suits, but the groomsmen decided they'd rather rent tuxes.
