Corsage for the readers?

We are having each of FI's sisters do a reading at the ceremony, as well as one of my high school friends.  Our florist suggested that we give them each a corsage, sort of a way to signal that they're part of the wedding and special.  Our grandmothers will get them as well as our aunts.

Personally, I hate corsages.  I think they're bulky, unnecessary, outdated, & itchy.  I really hate any time I have to wear them & took off my prom ones probably within an hour of putting them on.  So I can't see myself giving these 3 girls corsages to wear when I absolutely hate them, it seems like giving them a burden instead of something to differentiate them in a nice way.

Can anyone think of anything else that might be appropriate to give them for the day-of?  Does everyone else like to wear corsages and I'm just being irrational?

Re: Corsage for the readers?

  • What if you gave them just a single flower to hold/carry?  That way it's not something they have to feel like they're stuck with (they can leave it on their seat/at their plate) but it's a nice gesture.  It's probably also cheaper than having a corsage made :)

  • Are you talking the kind on your wrist or the kind you pin to your jacket or shirt or whatever?  Would it make a difference to you, one kind vs the other?

Otherwise... while I don't particularly enjoy wearing them either, I think you probably should get them one... maybe say something like, well, I personally don't like wearing them, so if you don't want to, fine, but here it is.
  • My florist offered up the suggestion of a flower for their hair or just one flower that goes on a bracelet.

  • What about a flower for their hair? That would be cute.

And for some weird reason, I love wearing corsages. A couple of years ago myself and another teacher were the Homecoming sponsors and when she ordered the corsages for the girls on Homecoming Court, I made her order me one too! Haha.

  • What about a bout? My sister did guest book for my cousin's wedding a few years ago and got one
  • We're having a small coursage for our reader (who is FI's sister).

We'll also have one for our programs and guest book attendants (who are my two younger female cousins that aren't bridesmaids).

I think it's something nice to set them apart from everyone else. You could also give them a small nosegay to carry (smaller than MOB and MOG) if you wanted to go that route.
  • We got corsages for our mothers and they were made from scraps of my wedding dress. I got them for $15 each on Etsy and they are amazing!!
