I AM SO MAD - RECEPTION VENUE VENT!

Okay, so my reception venue (Scarpino's) is rented from a hospitality management company. It is absolutely GORGEOUS! It has an Italian vibe with golds, purples, reds.. beautiful lighting and tile floors. It has two little lounge areas with couches and large tables and small tables for guests to just mix it up (versus just a large room with large round tables). Rooms are also kind of divided so it's not a huge room either. It was PERFECT. We booked immediately!

I got a call today at work. It was the coordinator telling me that Scarpino's was unable to host any events because it was unsafe to serve food in and the landlord will not fix any problems in the building. We are thinking it's aesbestos but she can't say because they are going to court with the landlord. I am SOOO mad/sad/pissed/upset/stressed! The management company has another building for us to use, that is also used for receptions but it doesn't have nearly the charm of Scarpino's. All of the tables, chairs, lighting is owned by them and can be moved to the other building, but it's just not the same building!

The manager of the company says she is going to do whatever she can to make us happy. She herself was almost crying on the phone when she was talking to me. She can't really do anything about Scarpino's, and wants to do anything since we aren't getting what we want. I feel almost like we should be compensated in some way.. even though it's not the management company's fault. What do you think?

So saddddd. :(

  • Did you already get invitations? If so and all the location information needs to be changed I would ask them to pay.

  • We are going to make them. The coordinator said she would do pretty much anything for us, so we're going to make sure we get taken care of since we didn't get what we originally wanted.

Dang straight they owe you some money unless there is a clause in your venue contract saying they can substitute another location of similar capacity, I would be fighting tooth and nail to get some $$ off. It's not this woman's fault, but I would draw up a list of suggestions for compensation and contact her. At the very least they should offer some complimentary upgrades in bar, apps, etc.

  • Wow, that really sucks!  I'm so sorry to hear about that.

I would talk to the management company.  To be perfectly honest, I feel that the management company should reimburse you a good amount for the venue downgrade, and seek to get those costs repaid to them by the landlord in the lawsuit.  If they have a contract with the owner of the facility who is now refusing to uphold his end of the contract, he should be paying up.  I'm sure you're not nearly the only person affected by this.

  • Oh no I'm not.. she said she was calling all the brides today (it's a VERY hard venue to get) and she said she was getting called every name in the book, poor lady. It's not her fault.

I'm talking with the management company as soon as I can get to my wedding city (about two hours away from where we live now) to look at the other venue and work something out. Whatever they compensate should be taken to the landlord in the lawsuit.

    It's SO upsetting.

Aw, that poor woman :(  I hope the landlord gets to shell out to the company, and I hope that woman (and the company she works for) gets well compensated for the time, effort, and inconvenience they're being put through, as well as the compensation all of the brides should be getting.

  • i would be very upset. I can't believe brides are acting like that. Yes it is a crappy situation but at least she is trying to fix something that is NOT her fault. Unforunately people always bite the hand that feeds. I would not want to work with brides that were like that to me. I hope you get some stuff for free.

  • I am so sorry you are going through this!! I know how important the venue was to me and I'd be so upset if this happend to me! I do think they owe you some sort of compensation for this... you aren't getting what you signed up for and its less than 4 months til your wedding!
  • I'm so sorry! I hope that everything works out for you and the coordinator is able to work with you and not against you

It's not her fault. I can understand brides being upset, but they shouldn't take it out on her.
