A little freaked out

SO.. we sent out invites last week and Iam a little freaked out that everyone will RSVP yes. Not counting out of town people we know won't make it we invited 180 people. We are hoping only 150 RSVP. Did any of you have more people than you thought RSVP? I tried to go by the 80% rule which would put us at about 140-145  but now Iam worried :(

DId you have a number that was the original guest list number? I've noticed that people get added as the planning goes on, and all the weddings I've been to it usually swells to a larger invited group, then shrinks back down to the original number...but someone is usually sick, doens't want to travel, can't afford it, has vacation planned etc.

I agree with PP. I'm hoping that ours will shrink back down. You will probably get 30 no's. Sending vibes! How many rsvps have you received?

You should really only invite people you can afford and plan on everyone you invite coming. We invited 120 people and had 110 come. Definatley more than the 80% rule. We also had several guest add people in on the invite that were not invited (about five total). Some people do not get ediquette at all.

Ditto PPs - I'm hoping our list will shrink as well.  And as Karrie said, I've heard where only 60% RSVPed yes (A LOT of OOT) and I've heard where they had MORE than what was invited RSVP, so I don't trust the 80% rule.

We added and then took people off. it was 216 with OOT guests. We knew they all weren't coming because they are all family and we have a fam reunion 2 weeks after the wedding. SO that brought the possiability down to 185. So far 20 people have RSVP's yes.

I hope this happens for you too, we were lucky enough (so far at least - since people have til 5/5 to RSVP) that the 80% rule has been working for us.  But, a lot of the people we invited were out of state, so i guess it's more common for them to decine than the local invitees.  Also, we ended up staggering our invitations.  We sent out the invites to our close family/friends first, and then sent some out later to the B List people (my mom's friends that i don't know) after we received some declinations back.

We invited 162, 121 accepted and 120 came. I think it is rare that everyone will RSVP yes.

ditto karebear~ you shouldn't be inviting more people than you can afford to have at the venue.....

also, you shoudln't rely on a generic percentage, either..you should be looking at WHO you invited..and judge from there for the best estimate...is your BFF coming? probably...is your second cousins step daughters boyfriend going to fly in from nebraska? probably not.

OP wanted to know what to expect from her RSVP response rate.  I think Jenn's point was that it depends on where your guests live and how motivated they are to attend.  I would agree that local ppl that you (or I suppose your parents) see all the time will be more motivated to RSVP than faraway ppl that you (or your parents) don't see all the time.

I went through the guest list again last night with FI and we did a re count. The total is actually 172. SO I think we have a good chance of making it. THanks for all of the advice ladies!
