Anyone get guidance about what % of people pick certain types of meals?

I'm trying to run a few budget projections and am curious if anyone had a venue tell them what a typical break down might be if fish (salmon) and beef (tenderloin) are offered as options.

I don't eat red meat, but my suspicioun is that it would be popular.  Is it safe to say 2/3 might pick beef?  More like 3/4?

Re: Anyone get guidance about what % of people pick certain types of meals?

  • In our area I would say most couples order 1 beef and 1 chicken.  I know that's always the safe route to go with my family.  I would say that seafood is probably ordered by 1 or 2 people at each table.
  • i would not eat either, i would have chicken as an option as well. LOTS of people do NOT eat red meat. Some cultures it is not allowed either. Red meat is high in protein but not good for diets.

  • I'd say around 75% would choose meat if it was at my wedding (no magic formula--just an estimate, knowing my guests).

I'm not giving my guests an option and I'm very happy about it haha :)

  • Can you serve a duet? I remember you mentioned surf and turf being expensive, but would subbing in salmon instead of lobster work?

  • Since I was a little kid, I've hated beef. There is no way I'm doing a combination plate.  I know I have to offer it, but there's no way I'll push it on people who don't like it either.

Are there seriously people who only eat chicken?  I'd take a nice piece of wild caught salmon over a chicken any day!

  • Chicken honestly is one of the most sure fire hits, i would google it to see what you come up with but i know that is what is served at a lot of weddings i have gone too, fish never ever & beef not so much

Maybe there are regional differences.  I can't remember eating chicken at a wedding here. Granted, the chicken on the menu at our venue is free range and I'm pretty sure it's from Polyface Farm (the Omnivore's Dilemna author's farm), so I'm sure it'll be great.  Chicken just doesn't seem special.

    The venue's options:
    1 chicken entree
    1 pork tenderloin entree
    1 lamb entree
    3 fish/seafood entrees
    4 beef entrees

That says to me that fish and beef are most popular around here.  If chicken were popular, they'd probably offer more dishes using it.

<div>You can only do chicken so many ways lol. What about asking your local board as they would know the area? I know here seafood would not fly & with the alergies i would not attempt it, but there it may, idk. Can you pick more than 1 meat?</div>

  • I would say the majority of women in my family will not eat red meat or fish, including myself.
I guess it depends on what your guests like.

  • We are offering a Sirloin, chicken and salmon.

I do not eat any fish.  I would eat beef at a wedding, but some people won't eat beef either that I know.  I think it is hard to make everyone happy, but I would try to pick the options that you think your crowd would enjoy th most.

  • Aside from the few vegans in my family, most would choose beef and a few would choose salmon.  FI's family is from Redneck Maine (I say this lovingly, truly) and would be most inclined to pick beef; to my knowledge, the few fish-eaters don't like salmon for some reason.

Do you only get the two options?

Honestly, I'm really, really bad at budget projections so when I try them, I just assume everyone is choosing the most expensive option and go from there.  It makes for a nice surprise when it's all said and done and I have extra money left over, haha.

  • Not quite wedding specific, but as a dietitian in Texas, I've found that there are some people who ONLY eat beef... especially though who live around cattle. But I also see a lot of clients/patients who like to eat a lot of chicken. I would love to push the fish on people, but sadly few people actually eat it often (from what I've seen). HTHs!

I can only imagine!  Bleck!  Please tell me the cattle people insist on grass-fed beef?!?

I think I'm spoiled...I've always lived either on water or closes enough to water to get great, fresh seafood.   :)
  • We're choosing Prime Rib, some sort of chicken dish, and a vegetarian option. I think chicken appeals to the masses (I personally don't like chicken very much). So many people can be finnicky about their seafood/fish that's why we left it off. Especially since they only offered salmon which I've heard some people say they love it and others say they hate it. I'm from the midwest, so maybe there are some regional differences and imo not many people in the midwest have very sophisticated palates. I suppose New Englanders would rather have seafood than a Midwesterner. New England has fishing and the midwest has farming!

<div>I wish. Don't think they really care where it comes from. Guess that's one reason why Texas is one of the fattest states in the country (and why I have a job...)</div>
