NWR- Needed to Vent about my doctor's office.

I am so upset right now. Last week I went to the doctor and he put me on High Blood Pressure pills; (family history of hypertension) I didn't want to take them because I HATE taking pills but I have been doing everything else to lower it and nothing has worked...
I have been taking them for a week and last night I got really light headed and blacked out at the dinner table. (scared the crap out of FI) It says this could be a side effect but to call the doc ASAP if this happens... So, I call this morning and the receptionist coped an attitude with me, first she told me I needed an appointment to talk to the doctor. I told her again... but I fainted and it says to contact your doctor if this happens, I need to know if I should adjust my medication... she got snotty and said and you think it is from the pills? I said yes, I think my blood pressure dropped too low and I fainted. She said she would have the doctor call me.. but who knows. I am so frustrated that she was so rude with me... hello lady I blacked out!

  • That's crazy! What a rude receptionist!! I hope that they get things figured out and that doesn't happen again!! Feel better soon!

  • If that doctor calls back, don't be afraid to tell him about the receptionist. He needs to know what kind of employees are working for him.
  • I'm with Chelsea, definitely make sure you tell your doctor the way the receptionist treated you.

FI just went on the same medication, hopefully not for long. Hope the blood pressure goes down (but not THAT low!) :)

This.  I'd also maybe call and speak with the office manager about it.

That is a serious issue and I hope you get it figured out soon.  My guess is they will cut your pills in half.

  • That's awful! If you have to call the office back, I would immediately ask to speak to a nurse, physician's assistant, nurse practioner, etc. And be sure to let the doctor or office manager know how you were treated-this woman clearly isn't the right person to be gatekeeping .

  • Oh my gosh, it's HORRIBLE when people don't seem to understand urgency in medical situations.

I was in terrible pain once when a filling fell out and the person who answered the emergency after hours calls downplayed it.

Waiting the weekend to see someon resulted in a root canal.  I was ticked!

  • Thanks guys! I was almost in tears when I got off the phone.. I am not one to call the doc for every little thing.

I understand she probably gets weird people calling to talk to the doctor. But it clearly stated on the side effects if I got lightheaded or fainted to call the doc ASAP.

The doc did say if I got lightheaded to cut the does in half. I had not been lightheaded till last night. I took half a pill today. I do have a follow up appointment next week... and I am monitoring my Blood Pressure.

and I am gonna guess she didn't give him the message.

Semi random question - when do you take your pills?

At your follow up I'd recommend telling your doctor about the nurse.  Did you get her name?

  • You definitely need to let your doctor and the office manager about the receptionist! I hope things work out with the medication!!

I take them first thing in the morning.

The nurse called me and the doctor said to stop using them and just monitor my blood pressure. It was just the nurse who called so I didn't say anything.. but I will when I go back in next week.
