NWR: Christmas Trees

So we haven't gotten ours yet, but it seems like everyone on FB keeps posting pictures of their decorations and trees.  I love looking at how everyone decorates their trees.  Fi and I use our childhood ornaments so every year is a walk down memory lane.  I'm thinking after Christmas this year I will buy some new ornaments to add to the collection, and hopefiully start getting a more "adult" look.

Is your tree up yet?  Do you get a real one or use a fake one?  PIP if you can!

Re: NWR: Christmas Trees

  • I haven't put mine out yet. I am finding it hard to get in the Christmas spirit this year for some reason.

FI has his tree up at the house. It's a University of Tennessee themed tree.

When we live together, we will get another bigger tree and make it ours. I want to get an ornament for each year we are married. I am pretty sure it will have ornaments from our childhood on it too. My parents were big into getting my brother and I hallmark ornaments so I have a  ton of those.

  • Shanee you read my mind.  We just put our tree up and took pictures and I was about to share them!

It's a real tree, our first together! Last 2 years we had a baby fake tree.  We got some awesome onaments (glass balls) on sale at Micheals before Thanksgiving for 50% off.  Some ornaments we got in Norway, and some are Swedish that my Mom's best friend's husband gave us when she unfortunately passed away. They are my favorite ornaments by far.

FI cut down our Christmas tree last weekend.  Of course, it was too tall for our living room, so he cut the top off.  It looks a little funny, but you can't tell that from the outside.

Right now the ornaments are really basic, I hope to add more throughout the years.

  • We've had ours up since Thanksgiving week. Ours is fake
  • Here's our tree- its fake. I have serious fears with real trees burning down. Most of the ornaments are the non-breakable kind plus a few NFL and MLB glass ones thrown in. I have beautiful glass ornaments that stay at my parents house because they host Christmas; once we move back I'll take over Christmas AND my ornaments!

Also, its after 9pm and FI is currently putting up more lights outside to compete with a neighbor. All we have is a balcony and there are well over 1,000 lights out there!

  • ....I wish we had a tree. FI and I talked about it a month or so ago, but now he doesn't want one now. He's never been big into Christmas, and it's always been the biggest/most important in my family, so I'm kind of bummed. But we won't be here from like the 17th until after New Years, so we won't really be able to enjoy it much anyway. The one at my parents' house is always amazing, and it will have all of our childhood ornaments. It's one of my sister and my favorite traditions to decorate the tree together. I'll post pics of that tree when I go home.

  • kks- i literally laughed out loud- we did the same exact things last year.  when you're in the woods cutting down a tree, they don't look that big (until you get them home).  this year we took a tape measurer with us and actually came home with the perfect sized tree for our little house.

diamons-the story about fi and the lights is hysterical!!!

  • Here's our Tree, it's a real one. It is huge, FI is obsessed with Christmas, mainly the tree. Every year he tries to get a bigger one then the year before. It was over ten feet tall so we had to cut some of the top off to put the star on.

Here it is all decorated. It has 1,000 lights on it. Our ornaments are a collection of FI childhood ornaments from his grandmother and the collection we started together over the last 3 Christmas'. We both really love the Hallmark ornaments collections so we have a bunch of those!
  • I just took the boys on Saturday to cut our tree down. It's a tradition that is started this year! We had so much fun. And, it actually cost less than the tree we bought last year (and this one is WAYYY bigger). I am very lucky our livingroom is big enough to hold this tree. It only takes up about 1/4 to 1/3 of the livingroom. We still have plenty of room for sitting and watching tv and everything.

Here are the boys in front of it at the house

And, I think the best one to actually show how HUGE the tree is - Here's my 2-1/2 year old nephew that went with us.

  • We live in a small 1-bedroom apartment, so we don't have room for a tree this year. We have a Charlie Brown tree on our fireplace mantle and a little baby tree (in a pot, maybe a foot high) that has a ribbon wrapped around it like garland and a few little drum ornaments sitting on the windowsill. If I remember when I get home I'll take a picture of it.

Next year we'll have a tree!

  • We have a small tree that we put up this weekend.  It's nothing fancy or anything since we are making sure the dog doesn't do anything to it this year before we really decorate it.

  • We're going to get ours this weekend! It's family tradition to go up to Boone and get it from one of the choose and cuts up there. It always lasts for so long. One year, my mom eventually just put the tree out on the porch because it was so far after Christmas. I think she finally threw it away in April, but it was still alive and beautiful. They're also a lot cheaper up in Boone.
  • We got our tree on Saturday night.  I haven't taken a picture yet...I can't find the ribbon I usually wrap around the tree, so I'm delaying.  :)

I don't know why Baxter doesn't get excited for tree trimming...

<div>For the last 2 years, this was our situation as well.  We always took a few weeks to visit both of our families so we never bothered getting a real tree.  Instead, we invested in a 3 ft. fake tree so that we had something to decorate even if we couldn't be around to enjoy it. </div><div>
</div><div>I'm gunning for a real tree this year, but I don't think FI will want that.  We're still trying to organize our living room, so we'll see.</div>
  • Here's our tree.  It's been up since last weekend.  Last year was our first Christmas in our house and we weren't sure how the cat was going to do with the tree so we bought a bunch of silver/purple/turquoise unbreakable balls.  Good thing we did because last year it fell when we weren't home and we had to tie it to the wall with command hooks.  We still love the tree with the color scheme and also have the white/blue/purple lights on it.  After Christmas last year both of our parents have given us some childhood ornaments which we have added along with new ornaments we acquired.
