So...um.. Holy Crap?! (HD registry update)

So FI and I went in yesterday to see what was up with our registry since they hadn't called him back Monday night like promised.  They re-printed our half registry saying that is all that was there.  We told them that there was plenty more on the list including our power tools and grill.  We asked if they kept a hard copy of the registry anywhere (the sheet we had to painstakingly fill out) and they said that they were THROWN OUT after being entered (HOW STUPID IS THAT?! at least wait until a couple weeks after the wedding.. geesh).  They halfassed apologized and offered for us to re-fill out those forms.

We were not satisfied with that answer and FI (who is very anti-confrontational) contacted HD corporate customer service and explained our situation and emphasized that our biggest upsetness is that they threw the hard copies away.  If the hard copy hadn't been thrown away, we'd be all well and good and they could re-enter it.  He also told them that we are heavily considerng pulling our registry from there because of how unreliable the system was and pointed out that they'd be losing probably close to $1,000 in sales considering we have 400 guests and a large registry there that included power tools and a grill.

He got a call back from the store manager here in regards to the e-mail (it had been forwarded on to her).  She agreed with him that the system is absolute shiit and they've been trying to convince corporate to change their system to an easier one.  She also said our complaint may very well be the nudge the company needs to do it right this time (especially since we pointed out that we're possibly pulling the registry) and that it's literally being sent to Mr. Hoem Depot president himself.  She also offered to personally meet with us and go through the store together and SHE'D write everything down and then enter it before we leave and give us a printout.  And as an apology for the inconvenience, they'd like to GIVE US THE GRILL from the registry as a wedding present!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I almost fell out of my chair when FI told me!

let's just say they MORE than made up for the PITAs they've been :)  What an awesome V-day present! lol

  • That's AMAZING!  All my complaining at Kohls, and all I got was re-prints of the coupons they'd already given me.

    I'm glad the squeaky wheel gets the grease - and I'm REALLY glad your complaints may have pushed them in the right direction for future couples!  Way to go!

  • Wow!!! I would be so excited!! I'm glad they finally took you seriously, and you have to admit it's pretty cool that your letter is being forwarded to the company's president and you could be the reason they change their policy...on top of getting your grill!!! So awesome!!

    Me too.  I don't think they realize how much revenue they would make on registries.  They have the most reliable tools out of all the chains.. It would be a geeat investment for them to fix the system.

    that's great!!!

    FI and I wanted to register there but I haven't heard the best things about their registry system. I hope they can get it fixed for yall and future couples who want to register there.

    ETA: Midge, don't get mad at me. I think you used to work there and are registered there.....

  • Well and with them losing the original list and all, this means we probably just get to pick a new one. I'm so tempted to get the most decked out one there.  But I'd feel bad trying to claim that one is the one we picked haha.

  • Ash, I would never get mad at you for saying the truth. I hate their registry system as much, if not more, than most people because I worked there. Plenty of people walked away from the registry once we told them how it worked. It's completely out of date and I really hope they get with the times soon. When we registered there, I made sure someone I trusted was putting the information in. I kept joking that if all new people were at the service desk that day, I'd be going behind the counter and doing it myself.

    That being said, GO HOME DEPOT for making things right by Chels! :)

  • That's awesome and I'm really glad they are stepping up to the plate! I wanted to do one there also, but after reading complaints about it I decided to nix the idea. Congrats on the new grill though! That's one of our top picks!
