What type of paper for programs??

Hi Ladies!!!

My programs are driving me bananas. I had them designed on Etsy and they're GORGEOUS!!! I bought a pdf file so I can have them printed myself.

The problem is that they are supposed to be printed on colored 11 x 17 paper and I can't find ANY 11 x 7 cardstock, only 11 x 17 colored regular paper.

My question is this - are programs SUPPOSED to be printed on heavy cardstock or regular paper?

Help pleeeeease!!!

TIA!!

Re: What type of paper for programs??

  • I printed mine on paper that was just a bit heavier than regular paper, but it wasn't card stock.

  • Paperandmore.com has some 11x17 colored card stock. Our programs have a card stock cover but the insert is regular paper. But I have been to many weddings where it's just regular paper. Are they folded? Or single sheets? If its single sheets you can always mount them on card stock.

  • It's just one piece of paper that you fold like an accordion. That's why I'm torn. I'm leaning toward just regular paper but I don't want people to think I'm tacky!! lol

  • I honestly think it could be done with any kind of paper depending on how formal your ceremony will be and how thick the program will be.

I ended up taking mine (which I had designed on my own also) to the UPS store. The guy was really helpful and printed me samples for free on 3 different options. I ended up going with the cheapest option just because I had decided last minute that I wanted programs at all and couldn't justify spending more money.

You could also maybe try resume paper? Which is a little nicer/thicker but I don't think is technically cardstock.

  • Thanks for the help, ladies!!! I think I'm going to stop at Kinko's after work and see what they have to say. :-)

  • I did 110 lb cardstock for the cover, and parchment paper for the inner pages.
  • I'm using linen paper

  • I did 100 lb paper.  It was nice and think, which I think was awesome since they are fans.
