Anyone make your own cardbox?

If yes, what type of boxes did you use and where did you buy them? Also, what did you use to decorate it?

I went to Michaels last night and didnt find any boxes I thought I could use but I may not have beel looking in the right place.. I definitely want to work on this this weekend but Im not really sure where to start :(

Re: Anyone make your own cardbox?

  • I'm making my own. I used a box that holds 10 reams of 8-1/2x11 paper (got it from work) and I covered it with wrapping paper. I bought the wood letters from Michaels that I am going to paint and attach to read "CARDS" on the front.

I'm not done yet, but see a pic of it on the FB group photos of cardboxes

  • Thanks! That seems like the perfect size and I could definitely bring one home from work so free is good! :)

  • I bought paper mâché boxes from hobby lobby. I painted them and used cute swirly letters that I painted blue and made some paper flowers that I added on.

  • I made my own:

The Top box will have a silver picture frame in from with one of our engagement photos in it.

I got the boxes from Christmas Tree shop and just spray painted them to cover the design.

  • Those paper mache boxes that PP listed are cool! I use their paper mache products for lots of projects!!

I'm making a birdcage one. We got a birdcage from Hobby Lobby (although saveoncrafts.com has lots!) and I'm going to add ribbon and a "Cards" sign.

Perhaps check out that website, you might get ideas from their "boxes" section! They have great prices.

  • @ Kfudge - I LOVE your cardbox!!! Wanna make one for me???? :P I am seriously creativity-challenged :(
  • I bought two round boxes from Hobby Lobby that were 1/2 off in there Christmas section.  They are like hat boxes I guess.  They are white with red flocking and red tops.
  • I used two shoe boxes that I had laying around and covered them with paper.

haha Thank you! I'm not crafty at all but it was really super easy!
  • I got my boxes at hobby lobby as well. I spray painted the black ones and used spray adhesive to cover the other one in fabric.

  • Here's mine:
I bought mine at Hobby Lobby. The regular paper mache boxes weren't bix enough so I got this one that was already green. FI cut the slot with an x-acto knife and drilled a little hole in for the flower. I used glue dots for the ribbon and hot glue for the letters. The letters are also from Hobby Lobby and were 99c a piece. Then I spray painted them
  • I used picture frames (cheapies from Walmart) for our card "box":

  • Thanks girls! I have so many ideas now!! I cant wait to get started :)

  • I bought a set of 5 round hat boxes from hobby lobby with a 40% off coupon, and then picked the 3 I liked, spray painted, cut them to fit, added ribbon, etc. I'm still going to add a few details but here's the basic idea

It's actually really fun to make one once you get going!
  • I'm making a picture frame one
  • I want to make a picture frame one also.
