Wedding dress dilemma

Hey girlies! When I first started wedding planning, I wasn't hung up on my wedding dress. I couldn't see paying any real money on it. But as I went along, trying on dresses, looking in catalogs, I changed my mind.

Saturday I went to a boutique, tried on dress after dress and found the one! It was $100 over my budget but when I stepped out into it, I felt beautiful and everyone told me so.

Sunday I went back to get measurements etc but was told the dress didn't come in women sizes (?) and I would have to get 2 yds of fabric added because of my hips (ha!) and alterations in the bust and waist area. These additions would add over $100 more to the dress. Making the dress $200 over my budget.

I could justify $100 but the addition $100 is making me question my choice. I only feel this way because I'm like, if I'm at X price point now with the dress, I might as well look at other dresses in that price point.

Should I buy my dress w/ alterations, look at other dresses in my new price point or stick with my original budget? I dunno lol

Re: Wedding dress dilemma

  • If you love the dress and can afford the extra money, then it's worth the extra $200! If you have any reservations at all then keep looking
  • I want to continue looking but I'm coming up on the 12 week mark and I know I have to place an order soon somewhere. If I have to, I'll cut the comedian from my wedding but I dunno know yet.
  • I say if you love it and can work it into the budget, it's worth the extra $200. My dress was over our budget by about the same amount as yours and I don't even know how much the alterations are going to be yet. I fall in love with my dress every single time I look at it or put it on. To me (and my mom who paid for it), we couldn't imagine another dress for me.

    This.
  • If you can fit the two hundred dollars in your budget. Do it.

  • I think it really matters how you feel about it. The dress really wasn't a big deal to me, I bought the second dress I tried on. If you feel this is *THE* dress, then get it! But to me, and extra $200 would be a deal breaker.

  • If you love it, buy it. Once you fall in love, stop looking!!

  • If you can afford it, and you love the dress, get the dress.  I don't think it's worth the time a stress looking for another dress you love more than the last one.
  • I agree with the other ladies, if you are in love with the dress and can fit it in the budget I would definitely go with it.
  • I know this depends on the type of store you went to but did you try to negotiate on the original price? I went to a small independent shop so when I told them would pay cash they dropped the price by about 10%. I was so in love with my dress I would have taken it anyway but my sales background made me try for a deal. So seems like you walked away which you may get a call in a day or two from the store so may be worth a try.
  • If you love the dress, it sounds like it would be worth it.

HOWEVER. I think it's really, really, really strange that someone would tell you a wedding dress doesn't come in women's sizes. That sounds really sketchy to me- like they're making things up to get more money out of you. If you know what the dress is, I'd find another store that sells it and ask them if they think you need the same alterations. If they do, see if they're willing to beat the price to get your service.
