June 2012 Weddings

RSVP? What's that?

On the RSVP deadline we were waiting on 20 responses. FI and I gave them 3 days past the deadline before we started contacting them. We are now waiting on 6. I was astounded at the number of people who said "Of course we are coming. We just forgot to send back the RSVP" First of all we gave them a month to decide. Secondly the invitation clearly says dinner will be served. So 12 people planned on showing up without telling us! Did they assume we were providing enough food for everyone we invited? Argh..I will be so glad for next Wednesday which is the deadline I gave for the last 6 so I can be done with this part of the wedding.

Re: RSVP? What's that?

  • People are dumb. People who know better don't even send them back in time. Such a pain.
  • I understand your frustration! Our deadline was yesterday and we are still waiting on 33 RSVPs which is a total of 58 people! It is really getting frustrating. They have been out for a month!

FI says not to bother calling people and if they don't RSVP then they don't get a meal. He's crazy!

Same here. I was surprised actually. At this point in time I am waiting on one couple who may or may not bring their kids. They have until Wednesday (when I meet with the caterer) to decide.

You would think that would make it easy enough for them to send it back. Apparently not! I thinke people are just lazy. So annoying!

I told FI that I wish we could have a bouncer at the door of the reception with a list of people who did not RSVP and if they showed up then they would be told you may attend but not eat or drink! He thought I was crazy also, lol. Our deadline was yesterday and I am waiting on 17. Low number compared to some of the other girls.
  • It is really annoying. I have actually told people, the ones that I am still waiting on recieving thier RSVP back, that if they don't send it back that they cannot show up because if they do they will have to leave.

My FI and FMIL both said this. I told them "think again!"

We sent out 195 invite. RSVP deadline was yesterday and there are 83 cards (not people, cards!) that are still MIA! My words to FI after I got the mail Saturday and only received 3: "We better get a butt ton on Monday and Tuesday!"
  • I'm in the same boat. I have about 100 people MIA with the deadline in 3 days. It's absolutely ridiculous people are like that.

  • I'm still waiting to hear back from 55 people. My RSVP date is Tuesday and I'm REALLY hoping I get a lot of RSVP cards this weekend or I'll be making a lot of phone calls.

  • I was in the same boat. Our deadline was on Wednesday and I think we were still waiting on over 60 people. FFIL, FI and I have been contacting people since and we are now down to 6 people (2 invitations). I was able to contact both families today so I hope that I hear back from them soon!

Our deadline was May 12. I waited a week, then started contacting people. We're still trying to track down 32 more couples! Most people I talked to laughed and said, "oh yeah, your's had an rsvp, right? oops, I forgot to send it in."

A lot of weddings around here (southern NM) don't even send out rsvps. They just have lots of extra tables and chairs and food and invite lots of people. Whoever shows up has a good time - they often bring guests who weren't invited too. They go by the saying "the more, the merrier" - in fact, this is what FMIL said to me when she tried to add more people after invites had been sent out and we told her no! She claimed there is always enough food for extra people at every wedding she's been to. Well, duh, because people spend extra money for extra food! Sorry, FMIL, but since FI and are paying for this ourselves, we don't have any extra wiggle room in the budget, so we won't be adding any extra people to the guest list.

And apparently, FMIL's brother got really upset when he saw that we had an rsvp card. He yelled at FMIL and said he won't be filling it out, but to tell us that they're coming! When FI told me this, I laughed and said, does he realize that he just rsvp'd? lol

I'm trying to make light of it, but the whole rsvp thing is really an issue for us and I'm trying to handle it one day at a time.
