Adding things to your registry?

Can people add things to your registry without you knowing?

There have been a couple items added to our BB&B registry that we didn't register for. Both of these items have been bought.

I didn't know if someone bought something we did register for along with something we didn't, if it would be added to our register. The mystery items are a patio table umbrella and spa socks. Spa socks, really?

Re: Adding things to your registry?

  • I think if they buy something for themselves while buying things for your registry it shows up on your registry as purchased.  This happened with a spatula but they actually did give it to us.

  • I saw this too and I can only guess what happened was they wanted to buy you something that wasn't on there and the store allowed them to scan your barcode and list the items as purchased. That's only my guess though, so I could be wrong.

  • I've heard of this happening with BBB. Like Jaime said, if they buy your gift, but then also buy some shampoo for themselves somehow the shampoo gets added on as well. I saw a post in TK where a tub of cashews and Swedish fish got added to their registry. I'd want the fish!!

  • I would want the swedish fish too!

Ash, this has happened on my registry.  It does just mean that they bought some other things when they were also purchasing off of your registry.
For one, someone got us one thing for us from our registry and one thing that wasn't on it.  She did it all in the same transaction and the second item now shows.
For another, someone got us a cookie sheet but must have also bought a shower head for themselves while they were there.  I just deleted the shower head from our registry.

  • After reading the replies to this post I am bummed because I had a silver serving tray show up on my BBB registry that I did not register for. It said Requested 0 Received 1. I love the tray and I am excited to get it. But now I'm thinking maybe someone had two gifts to purchase at the same time and the tray is meant for someone else.

This was what happened with us. They purchased our toaster, but then got us a sandwich machine that we didn't register for. FI thinks it's a great addition though so we'll be keeping it.

  • This happened to me, my aunt went off the registry and bought me additional items from BBB and they showed up on the online registry. Requested 0 purchased 1. i'm kind of mad I looked but I can't help it!
  • Yes, they can.  One of my friends got us something very, very similar to an item on our registry and it popped up as 0 requested 1 purchased.
