iPod/laptop reception music

We are doing iPod/laptop music for our reception. I am a bit overwhelmed at the prospect of choosing music. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to go about it? For those of you doing this, what did you do? I wonder if there are lists online that I could tinker with? Our taste in music is very random, and we want to be sure to have a good mix. Arrrgh! Help!

don't feel bad! just do what I did. . . spend some time picking out some music you like that you can think of on itunes. buy it all and put it in a new playlist and call it "wedding music" or some such title. then, when you've exhausted your top-of-the-head music, write down songs/artists to research as you hear music in your everyday life. that has really worked well for me. when FI and I are watching a movie (for instance) and a song plays that I really like, or he really likes, I'll make a mental note or write down the artist/song title and look it up later.

Thanks! That sounds like a perfect jumping off point! Maybe easing into it will make it a little less overwhelming!

Also look at band/DJ websites. A lot has lists of popular songs pkayed at weddings. It may be good for those songs you forget you like.

Ask 10 people to give you two songs a piece that they would like to hear at the wedding.

There are lots of websites that have top music lists too that you could check out.

Google something like "Top songs played at weddings."  There are tons of those sites and they have some good ideas!

I've seen where people put a line on their RSVP for song requests.  That way you know you'll have songs your guests like.

I was gonna suggest this.
My DJ asked us for a list of songs we wanted played. There are a few songs that will bring back memories for my BM's and I. I asked them for suggestions too.

I really like the song "All my Life" by the Band Perry. Also, "From this moment on" by shania twain is pretty. Also "I Do (Cherish you) by 98 degrees and "when a man loves a woman" by percy sledge. Also "all my life" by K-C and Jojo and "Perfect Day" by hoku.
