How to make a boring ballroom not "usual"?!!

Okay girls, you all know I lost my reception space LAST WEEK!! So stressed out and I need major help. We found a new space, a typical hotel ballroom. The hotel is a Doubletree and very nice inside, but it's just a.. typical ballroom! Ugly patterened carpet that doesn't match my colors, and plain walls.

How can I make this room amazing? I like uplighting, my colors are purple and green.. but I don't want the entire room to be overwhelmed with purple uplighting. I think the ceilings are really tall so I'm not sure if we would be able to cover the ceiling with cloth.

What can I do besides the typical chair covers and sashes, and covered tables? Of course we are having centerpieces, but before they were going to be rather plain because the other space had more character. Now I'm stressing out and need ideas how to make this typical hotel ballroom look amazing.

ETA: Here's a pic of the space. To me, it looks soooo.. boring. Plain. Ew.

  • I woud do some uplighting. You could also add some bright linens and a mixture of tall and short centerpieces. We're renting a large rose pomander to go above our dance floor and the dance floor has columns on each corner. The pomander will be in the center with tulle connecting to the columns.
  • What about your table linens? I agree with uplighting and possibly draping some fabric against the walls or behind your head table/sweetheart table. Add chivari chairs if they're in the budget.

  • If you pick one of your colors for the uplighting and mix it with some white lights it would be more subtle and super classy IMO. I think either purple or green would look great that way.

  • I think the biggest impact you could make in that space is to rent different chairs. I can't even begin to explain how much a ballroom is taken from a traditional/boring space to a wedding when someone uses chivaris.

You could also look into renting white draping/curtains to cover up the walls to soften things up a bit.
  • Well it's definitely not as bad as I thought based on what you have about it.  I like Kelsey's idea.

  • be careful with the table linens being bright, though. Like you said, that carpet is not going to be your friend when it comes to matching with your colors. Then again, if the tables are placed pretty close to each other, maybe it will not matter that much. I'd play with lights on your tables as well. make the overhead lighting muted and use candles or diodes to light up the centerpieces!
if you havwe a bit more modern taste, you could check out the undertable lights. they come in all kinds of colors and make your white linens light up in that shade from underneath.

and... if there is any way whatsoever to get up to the ceiling - this! http://rentandevent.com/images/Illuminated.jpg
