Anyone have their menu planned

We have absolutely no clue what we want to have for our meal. We're debating between a buffet and just a heavy app/sandwich & salad table, but have no ideas for the buffet.

What's on your menu?

Re: Anyone have their menu planned

• we are doing burgers & hotdogs, 3 different kinds of salads, chips & wedding cake (2 kinds) for dessert, being put on by ourselves (his mom is a caterer and making the salads as a gift) and we have bms bfs doing the bbqing. It will be much cheaper for us this way and allow us to invite the extra guests & +1's that we want to be making people comfortable. It will be buffet style and no one will complain as we host big bbqs 5-6 times a summer that are a blast. It is who we are and no one would expect any different.

• That sounds awesome, I would love to do that, but my mom would probably have a stroke. Plush FI is very teritorial when it comes to BBQ-ing so he would want to do all the grilling himself lol.

• We hav a sit down dinner... our choices will most likely be half roasted chicken and pan seared salmon

• is there a place that does bbq catering for cheap then? FI is happy to hand the grilling over to others, he is good at it but that is one thing he HATES doing, honestly he is quite different than most guys, in some ways he is very much like a lot of guys (hunting, fishing, quadding) but he does NOT like sports of any kind and could care less about grilling etc lol.

• We're doing traditional New England food; mostly seafood, chowder, and a lobster station. We had our first tasting yesterday which was amazing, although quite a bit fancier than we thought we wanted. Today's tasting will be the same style of menu, but seems a bit more low key. This is super fun!

Sounds yummy! But it would kill me in a heartbeat. I'm allergic to any and all fish, even fresh water. FI already had an argument with his family because they wanted trout or something for the dinner and he said no, he wasn't allowing any fish. They don't understand, even walking through the seafood part of the grocery store makes me so ill i almost want to pass out.

I miss lobster, I had it once as a kid.

• We're doing stations. So there will be:

Salad Station
Seafood Station
Potato & Veggie Station
Pasta Station
Carving Station

We get to choose a few options for each station and while we've discussed these, we haven't spoken to our venue about our choices yet. It's basically like a buffet, but there will be chefs at each of the stations. So like at the pasta station, you get to pick what type of pasta you want and what you want in it and they cook it up in front of you.
• I like the stations idea it sounds like fun!

• We're doing:

Baby spinach salad w/ poppy seed dressing

Choice of:
Filet Mingnon
Salmon filet

Glazed baby carrots

Roasted, rosemary, red baby potatoes

MMMM. I'm hungry alreadyy!

We had almost these exact options at our venue, but I was afraid it would be a logistical nightmare with over 200 people having to wait for their food to be cooked. I really love the idea though, and I wish we had less people so it would work out better!

We will be having butler passed hors-deourves (I'm going to learn to spell this one day) during the cocktail hour and then a sit down dinner. There are quite a few entrees to choose from, so I'm not sure yet what we'll have. I do believe our vegetarian option will be portobello mushroom stuffed ravioli though. Yum!

• I have no idea what we're doing for apps yet for the cocktail hour. We're doing a sit down dinner with a garden salad, Italian wedding soup, pasta and then choice of surf and turf, roasted chicken, or a vegetarian option.

Posted by nvelez28[/QUOTE]I love you! If I still lived up there, I'd crash. Just kidding. Maybe. ;)

We haven't done any of this. The chef at our venue is big on buying local and seasonal menues. Our food won't be discussed until a couple months before the wedding.

We did get to see a video of the executive chef doing a tasting with the first couple getting married at our venue (new venue...first wedding is in June). The groom asked for a bacon station: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYrzUFjnJt0
• We are having a cocktail hour with hors devourers followed by a sit down dinner. We haven't exactly picked what we will be having yet.

• We're having:
BBQ
Baked Chicken
Salad
Mac&Cheese
Mashed Potatoes
Green Beans

This is a pretty typical menu for our families.
• CvilleClaire, we seem to be on the same wave length. You might get an invitation! The tastings have been so much fun. It's lovely to get a menu custom designed for you and have so many options--almost too many. Leave the house with an empty stomach and pace your self with the starters.

• FI is crazy about pizza and I'm nuts about Mexican food.. thus..

Two buffet lines.

1. Pizza, pizza, pizza

2. Nacho bar!

I'm stoked.
• Our caterer helped us plan ours around the beginning of this year -

"Cocktail" hour (outside in Texas) will include:
Local Cheese and Fruit display
Lavender Lemonade (town is famous for lavender festival; yellow=wedding color)

Dinner will be heavy apps at several stations:

Station One (Semi-Vegetarian)
Mushrooms stuffed with Spinach, Feta, and Sundried Tomatoes
Early Summer Fruit wrapped with Prosciutto
White Bean and Roasted Garlic Bruschetta

Station Two (Tex-Mex/American)
Sirloin Sliders with Bacon, Camelized Onions, and Bleu Cheese
Jalapeno Bacon Mac and Cheese Bites (my special request)
Avocado Halves with Smoky Corn and Red Pepper Salad

Station Three (Semi-Italian)
Skewered Chicken Bites with Orange Basil Sauce
Marinated Grilled Vegetable Display
Caesar Salad Bites with Asiago Croutons

Also - Assorted Dinner Rolls (3 kinds) with 3 Flavored Butters (ex. herbs, honey)

To drink - water, iced tea, lavender lemonade, and a full bar, including local wines, a keg from a local brewery and assortment of liquors/mixers

Dessert:
Wedding Cake - Italian Creme Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting

Groom's Cake Buffet - will probably include 5-6 10" round cakes, including carrot, chocolate-raspberry, chocolate-peanut butter, white cake-strawberry filling, lemon cake, and perhaps a cheesecake and pie - all simply decorated, like regular bakery cakes

Coffee service with cake, including coffee/dessert liquors

Food is a big thing in our families - my mom has worked as a country club chef and in school food service, and my sister is studying to be a dietician. His family (and mine) really like to eat, so we wanted to have something for everyone and not the traditional buffet fare. We're really working with our caterer to emphasize local ingredients and suppliers.
• I love the pizza & nachos idea, and so does FI! hmmm maybe...

• We're having a sit down dinner. I think we've decided on two choices- guests can pick from the sea bass or the filet mignon. We are just having a dinner after our renewal ceremony. Can't afford a cocktail hour and would hate to have a cash bar. There is a bar at the restaurant that people can get drinks with their dinners, if they choose. We will be having a champagne toast, though. Somehow, we forgot to have one at our original wedding!
• Our dinner menu will be a roast beef carving station, garlic mashed potatoes, sauteed vegetables, salad, and bread pudding for dessert. This is in addition to our cocktail hour.
Photobucket
• We are also doing stations or a buffet. The venue said it would be something we can discuss when wedding gets closer. They did give us the menu list for all of our options and HOLY COW, there are A LOT. I can't wait to taste test :D

We decided we did not want pre plated meals mostly because when we are guests we aren't really fans of them. We get in horrible "food moods" so going to a wedding knowing I have chicken coming when all I really am craving that day is steak irritates me, lol. We like choices and variety so thats what we decided to offer.

Same with dessert. We will have a chocolate fountain and we will have a wedding cake to cut but the guests will get cupcakes and we are going to have a variety of flavors.

• My parents will be cooking the chicken and salads the day before. They will be in warmers the day of. Served buffet style!

Grilled chicken breasts.
Garlic mashed potatoes.
Homemade baked beans.
Rolls.
Salads.
Veggie trays.

Laid back and relaxed. Just how we like it! ;)

• We are having a sit down dinner. We/He has decided on chimichurri steak, herb encrusted chicken, roasted potatoes, yellow rice w/ black beans and chef's choice for veggies.

Our tasting was delicious so I can't complain!
• We are doing a sit down dinner. We went to a buffet wedding awhile back and I ended up with my dinner all down the front of me!! We haven't decided on apps during the cocktail hour but I think we're having cobb/caesar salad, either filet mignon or blackened chicken. I think I want a dessert bar but I'm not sure.
