Menu/side dish question

For our entrees we are having choice of filet mignon or salmon.

The filet comes with a potato roesti and the salmon comes with rice pilaf. Mashed potatoes are my favorite side -- the chef will make me my own salmon with mashed potato for the wedding but if you order salmon do you prefer rice, potato or another side?
And would it be weird to have both sides be potatoes? (FI is Irish and I'm German, hahaha)

Re: Menu/side dish question

  • With salmon I prefer a rice or risotto since it's a bit more delicate than potatoes. I personally prefer potatoes with red meats.

I think giving your guests another option besides potatoes would be your best bet - I'm west indian and we LOVE our rice so it's always hard for me to get away from that! I understand...believe me :)

  • Hehehe. I love mash potatoes! They are my favorite food. I wouldn't mind both sides being potatoes because I'm German and Irish. But I think others might find it weird. Now you have made me hungry!

  • I would be fine with either side. I'm not particular about which sides go with which main dishes. However, there are a decent number of people in my life who don't like potatoes so for that reason I wouldn't have both sides be potatoes.
  • I usually eat rice with fish but honestly I'm not picky. I'd pretty much eat any starch. The only thing I care about is that the mashed potatoes are real and not made from a box. My family can't stand boxed mashed potatoes, there would be a riot.

this.  I think it would be good to have both sides so guests have an option if they don't like one.

  • I'd be fine with either, but generally, I like rice or risotto with salmon!

I think it would be a good idea to have differing sides instead of both potatoes because some people don't like potato.  I however love mashed potatoes so I'd be ok eating it with really anything.
