Cake flavors - what are yours?

My FI and I keep debating about what flavors we want to do.  My uncle is making our cake and gave us free range to do whatever we want.  He said just tell him and he'll make it.  Anyway, my FI is at the point where he doesn't really care but wants it to taste good and I kinda feel lost in all the options.

What are you doing?  Was there a reason you picked that flavor beyond taste?

Re: Cake flavors - what are yours?

  • Vanilla and red velvet.  We wanted guests to have options for their preference.  Fi and I are both vanilla people, but I actually like red velvet as well.  I hope that this will make the most people happy!

  • We are having key lime, orange sherbet and vanilla. FI loves anything and everything key lime flavored and the orange sherbert continues with our colors (orange and lime). The vanilla is an old faithful for those who aren't fans of the other two.

We are doing cupcakes made out of these 3 flavors.

Our 2 tier cake will have the key lime on the bottom that we cut and the top tier for our anniversary will be the vailla with raspberry filling.

  • Red velvet with cream cheese icing.

We'll have to keep the cake inside to display during cocktail hour and then we'll just have them bring the cake out for the cutting because the cream cheese icing will melt all over the place if it's outside on a North Carolina summer night.
  • We are doing cupcakes. Chococlate w/mint icing (my favorite), chocolate w/peanut butter icing (FI favorite), vanilla/vanilla and then probably a fruit flavor for the 4th flavor.

  • we are doing Vanilla with starwberry and buttercream filling and Red Velvet with black cherry and buttercream filling =)
  • We are doing almond cream filing with a french butter cake. The other layer will be fudgy devil food cake where it is brushed with vanilia syrup and laced with coffee liquer and filled with espresso buttercream. White chocolate buttercream icing will be used to frost the cake.

The cake is coming from my favorite french bakery. We both really liked these flavors and thought that it was rather balanced between the two.

For the groom's cake I'm doing marble cake with chocolate frosting in the shape of a suitcase. I picked marable because that is what FI's mom would make for birthday cakes and I thought it was a sweet gesture in remembering her.

  • White, chocolate and strawberry. I hate chocolate so we had to have something else for that reason.

  • We are doing three tiers. The chocolate will have either chocolate filling/or some type of mint filling ( I love chocolate) The yellow will have strawberry filling (FH does not like chocolate) and I have no idea for the last tier. My mom is making the cake. She will probably do another chocolate layer with a different flavor filling or a white cake with who knows what filling. I have pretty much given her free range as long as there is a chocolate layer and a yellow layer.

  • Ours are lemon, marble, and cherry chip...I'm really excited for the lemon haha
  • We're having three tiers with each one being a different flavor.  One will be an orange dreamsicle, next will be an amaretto, and we haven't picked out the last flavor yet.  We wanted something different than the basic chocolate and vanilla.  Not that there is anything wrong with those but we thought our wedding cake should be a bit more special and fun!

  • Everyone's cakes sound so yummy. I am going on Friday afternoon to decide on my cake flavors so I don't know yet. I know vanilla will be one for sure.

  • A lady I work with offered to make our cake, she is amazing!
We are doing three cakes. (she insists on three) Two smaller ones that will be confetti (I like white cake, and confetti is super fun!)and lemon (FIs family loves lemon). The larger one will be chocolate because it is the most popular.

They will be fairly small but the chocolate will have one more tier. (I think 12", 8" and 4")

  • The bottom tier will be alternating vanilla and chocolate, with raspberry jam (I don't like straight-up chocolate and their vanilla is delicious).  The middle tier will be a spice cake with apple jam, which tastes JUST like mulled cider.  Hopefully the top tier will be the alternating cake again, but with a buttercream flavored like cannoli filling; if we can't do that though, it will be raspberry again.

We haven't totally settled on these, yet - we booked the date, but need to go in to finalize the details (and hopefully eat more cake!)

  • Right now our flavors are chocolate, vanilla, and red velvet. We might change them though...

  • Not too sure yet but I think just traditional white and chocolate.  We also have a candy bar with all different things so had the thought to maybe just keep the cake simple.
  • Marble cake (all 3 layers). French Butter Cream Frosting.

1st Layer filling - fresh strawberries and baking filling
    2nd layer Filling- raspberry
    3rd layer filling- lemon

When my FI, I and his mom went to the cake tasting we all decided that everything tasted good lol so we made each layer a different flavor so that there is variety. Smile
  • We are having multiple flavors (each tier is going to be different) and we are having 4-5 tiers these are our flavors we are considering. Our tasting is coming up soon marble with white chocolate fill lemon cake with fresh raspberry fill chocolate cake with cherry fill (fi loves cherries & chocolate) vanilla caramel latte cake with a vanilla bean filling butter with mixed berry fill

  • My mom is making our cake, and I think we'll go with her classic chocolate cake recipe. So good--not too sweet! Our only concern is getting the cake to look white--it might take a few layers of frosting. We don't want fondant!
  • Chocolate and peanut butter, coconut, and lemon raspberry.  I'm a little too excited about it.
  • We have a lot of fruit and nut allergies in my family (especially me!) so those options were ruled out.

    5 tiers:
2 tiers of: chocolate cake with rum buttercream and chocolate ganache
2 tiers of: butter cake with rum buttercream and Italian meringue buttercream
Top tier: butter cake with mocha buttercream and crushed espresso beans
    Anniversary
  • I couldn't read through all of these because I would want a big after dinner snack and I'm trying to be good!  Our cake is going to be vanilla with Oreo mousse and vanilla frosting.  Can't wait!
  • I am making our cake :)
All three tiers will be the same. It is a Gansito insipred cake. The cake will be vanilla - it will have two filling a vanilla/mascarpone and a strawberry filling. It will have a chocolate gananche frosting and decorated with chocolate curls as well as chocolate sprinkles in keeping with the Gansito inspiration.

I am also making a groom's cake that will be the same cake and fillings but wil have a buttercream/mascarpone frosting.
